Junior Cloud/Infrastructure Engineer
Job Summary: The Junior Cloud/Infrastructure Engineer will support the design, implementation, and maintenance of our organization's cloud and on-premise infrastructure. This role is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience with system monitoring, performance optimization, and cloud technologies under the mentorship of senior engineers.

As a junior observability engineer, you will support systems that collect, analyze, and visualize data from software applications and infrastructure. You will gain deep exposure to system health monitoring, alerting strategies, and proactive problem identification.
Responsibilities:
- Support Infrastructure Strategy: Assist in implementing infrastructure initiatives including data collection pipelines, dashboards, metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting under senior engineer guidance.
- System Monitoring: Help monitor system performance, identify potential bottlenecks, and support solutions to optimize efficiency and reliability.
- Incident Response: Assist in incident response efforts and troubleshooting of system issues, learning root cause analysis practices.
- Tooling and Infrastructure: Learn and work with observability tools such as Prometheus, Datadog, New Relic, and VictoriaMetrics to capture metrics, logs, and traces.
- Alerting: Help configure and maintain alerts based on defined thresholds, ensuring timely notification of potential issues.
- Data Analysis: Support analysis of collected data to identify performance trends, collaborating with engineering teams on resolutions.
- Automation: Assist in developing automation scripts for repetitive monitoring and alerting tasks to reduce manual effort.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Learn from and collaborate with development and operations teams, gaining exposure to cloud and infrastructure best practices across the software development lifecycle.
- Capacity Planning: Assist with capacity planning tasks under senior engineer guidance using observability data.
- Dashboard Support: Help create and maintain dashboards that provide real-time insights into system health and operational metrics.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, in progress or completed — or equivalent bootcamp/self-taught experience
- 0-2 years of systems administration/engineering experience (internship or co-op experience counts)
- Basic understanding of monitoring principles and best practices
- Familiarity with one or more observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic, etc.)
- Basic exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization concepts (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Some scripting experience in Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- Basic understanding of layer 2/3 networking concepts (VLANs, routing, ACLs)
- Exposure to VPN and routing concepts is a plus
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment
- Basic understanding of Windows Server and/or Linux systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Any hands-on cloud platform exposure (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Familiarity with Windows Server / Linux environments
- Experience with at least one scripting language for task automation or proof-of-concept work
- Strong problem-solving curiosity and troubleshooting aptitude
