Job Purpose
The Junior Mechanical Technician supports senior technicians and supervisors in the installation, maintenance, repair, and optimization of mechanical systems and machinery. The role focuses on developing hands-on technical skills while assisting in preventive maintenance and mechanical repair activities in marine and workshop environments, ensuring safe and reliable equipment operation.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Maintenance & Mechanical Support
- Assist in executing preventive maintenance activities as per schedules and supervisor instructions.
- Dismantle and remove engine, generator, and transmission assemblies and related components under supervision.
- Clean, repair, rebuild, and assemble mechanical components in accordance with service manuals and supervisor guidance.
- Support maintenance and repair of hydraulic systems and other mechanical components as assigned.
- Assist with cleaning, painting, transporting, and handling components and equipment.
Workshop & Housekeeping
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas, tools, and equipment.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of tools and mechanical components.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all equipment and work activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Follow established safety procedures when handling machinery, tools, and hazardous materials.
General Responsibilities
- Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including workshops and site locations.
- Willingness to work overtime when required.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma preferred; certification from a vocational or technical institute is an advantage.
- 26 years of experience in mechanical maintenance or related fields.
- Basic proficiency in using hand tools and precision measuring instruments (e.g., spanners, calipers).
- Ability to follow established procedures, service manuals, and work instructions.
- Good communication and basic problem-solving skills.
- Physically fit with good strength and stamina for manual and technical work.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Key Skills & Competencies
Functional Skills
- Basic Mechanical Knowledge of marine engines and systems (diesel/gas engines).
- Ability to assist in diagnostics and fault identification.
- Exposure to repair and maintenance of cooling, fuel, lubrication, and exhaust systems.
- Understanding of mechanical principles, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical systems.
- Ability to maintain basic maintenance records; familiarity with CMMS is an advantage.
- Strong awareness of safety standards and compliance in a marine/workshop environment.
