Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and technically sound Joinery Estimator with strong knowledge of premium and luxury furniture manufacturing. The candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, quantity take-offs, material calculations and quotations for customized and high-end furniture projects.

The ideal candidate should have practical knowledge of wood, metal, upholstery, hardware, finishing materials and premium furniture manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Estimation & Costing

Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for customized and premium furniture.
Study drawings, BOQs, specifications, design details and client requirements.
Calculate material quantities, wastage, labour, hardware, finishing and production costs.
Prepare detailed cost sheets and project-wise estimation reports.
Estimate the complete cost of furniture from raw material to final finished product.
Calculate cost for customized, bespoke and luxury furniture items.
Prepare quotations based on accurate costing and required profit margins.
Review and revise estimates based on design or specification changes.
Coordinate with production, design, purchase and project teams for accurate costing.

2. Wood / Joinery Knowledge

Solid wood and engineered wood
Teak, Oak, Ash, Walnut, Beech and other premium wood species
MDF, HDF, plywood, veneer and blockboard
Natural veneer and reconstituted veneer
Wood thickness, sizes and volume calculations
Joinery methods and construction techniques
Mortise & Tenon, Dovetail, Finger Joint, Biscuit Joint and other joinery methods
CNC and conventional woodworking processes
Wood wastage calculation
Wood seasoning and moisture-related considerations
Polishing, staining, PU, melamine, lacquer and other finishing processes

3. Metal Knowledge

The candidate should have practical knowledge of metal used in furniture manufacturing, including:
MS, SS, Brass, Aluminum and other metals
Metal pipes, sheets, rods and sections
Metal frame and structure estimation
Cutting, bending, welding, grinding and fabrication processes
Powder coating, PVD, plating, polishing and other metal finishes
Metal hardware and accessories
Metal wastage and weight calculations
Coordination with metal fabrication vendors and production teams

4. Upholstery Knowledge

The candidate should have good knowledge of upholstery materials and processes, including:
Fabric, leather, faux leather and other upholstery materials
Foam density and thickness
Different types of foam and cushioning materials
Dacron, batting, webbing, springs and other upholstery materials
Fabric and leather consumption calculations
Pattern and cutting wastage
Sofa, chair, headboard, ottoman and other upholstered furniture estimation
Stitching, piping, quilting, tufting and buttoning requirements
Labour costing for upholstery work

5. Premium & Luxury Furniture Estimation

The candidate should have the ability to estimate:
Luxury sofas and lounge furniture
Dining tables and chairs
Beds and bedroom furniture
Cabinets, consoles and sideboards
Custom-made furniture
Designer and bespoke furniture
Veneer and solid wood furniture
Metal and wood combination furniture
Upholstered furniture
High-end hotel, resort and residential furniture
Furniture with premium hardware and imported accessories

6. Drawing & Technical Understanding

Read and understand furniture shop drawings and technical drawings.
Understand dimensions, sections, details and construction methods.
Interpret design drawings and convert them into manufacturing quantities.
Identify materials and processes required for production.
Coordinate with designers and production teams regarding technical feasibility.
Identify missing details, discrepancies or errors in drawings before costing.

7. Material & Vendor Coordination

Coordinate with Purchase and Stores departments for current material rates.
Maintain updated rates of wood, veneer, plywood, hardware, metal, fabric, leather, foam and finishing materials.
Obtain quotations from vendors wherever required.
Compare vendor prices and prepare cost comparisons.
Maintain an updated database of material and process costs.
Support the company in achieving cost-effective procurement and production.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Diploma / Degree in Furniture Design, Interior Design, Production, Civil, Mechanical or related field preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in furniture estimation and costing.
Strong practical knowledge of furniture manufacturing.
Excellent knowledge of wood, joinery, metal and upholstery.
Experience in premium, luxury or customized furniture will be preferred.
Strong knowledge of material quantity calculations and costing.
Good knowledge of MS Excel.
Knowledge of AutoCAD / furniture drawings will be an advantage.
Strong analytical and numerical skills.
Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple projects
