Role Description

As a Java Technical Lead at California Software, you will take technical ownership of the design, development, and delivery of enterprise-grade Java applications and backend services.

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai and requires a strong hands-on technical leader who can lead a development team while continuing to contribute to architecture, development, code reviews, debugging, and technical problem-solving.

You will be responsible for designing scalable backend architectures using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA/Hibernate, REST APIs, and Microservices. You will provide technical direction to developers, review code for quality, security, scalability, and performance, and ensure engineering best practices are consistently followed.

The role involves translating product and business requirements into technical solutions, mentoring developers, resolving complex development and production issues, optimizing application and database performance, and coordinating with frontend, mobile, QA, DevOps, product, and business teams.

You will also contribute to API integrations, application security, release management, production stability, architecture decisions, technical documentation, and continuous improvement of the software development lifecycle.

As Calsoft expands its AI-enabled platforms, the role will also provide opportunities to work with LLMs, AI APIs, intelligent automation, and AI agents as part of enterprise product development.

Qualifications

* 7–12 years of software development experience, with strong hands-on expertise in Java-based enterprise application development.

* Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, and Hibernate.

* Practical experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and Microservices architectures.

* Strong knowledge of MySQL/SQL, relational database design, query optimization, indexing, and application performance tuning.

* Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming, SOLID principles, Design Patterns, clean architecture, and maintainable software design.

* Proven experience leading technical teams, assigning and reviewing development work, conducting code reviews, and mentoring developers.

* Ability to take end-to-end technical ownership of modules, applications, and product releases.

* Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills with experience resolving complex application and production issues.

* Experience with Git/GitLab, Maven or Gradle, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software development practices.

* Understanding of application security concepts including authentication, authorization, JWT, OAuth2, and secure API development.

* Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Redis, Kafka or other messaging technologies, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is an advantage.

* Experience developing multi-tenant SaaS applications, high-volume enterprise systems, CRM, e-commerce, sales automation, or business automation platforms is highly desirable.

* Exposure to OpenAI, Gemini, LLM APIs, AI agents, RAG, or AI-enabled application development will be an added advantage.

* Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and decision-making abilities.

* Ability to collaborate effectively with product managers, business stakeholders, QA engineers, frontend/mobile developers, and DevOps teams.

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
