As a Java Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase, you serve as a seasoned member of an agile team to design and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. You are responsible for carrying out critical technology solutions across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm's business objectives.
We primarily use Java as our main language, using libraries such as Spring Boot and deploying to Kubernetes-based platforms on both private and public cloud. We have a heavy focus on ensuring that our deployments, via a build server, are both efficient and well-controlled.
Job responsibilities
- Regularly provides technical guidance and direction to multiple teams to support the business and its technical teams, contractors, and vendors
- Develops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others, driving the continuous improvement of system stability and efficiency
- Drives decisions that influence the product design, application functionality, and technical operations and processes
- Serves as a function-wide subject matter expert in one or more areas of focus
- Actively contributes to the engineering community as an advocate of firmwide frameworks, tools, and practices of the Software Development Life Cycle
- Influences peers and project decision-makers to consider the use and application of leading-edge technologies
- Adds to the team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
- Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
- Solid development experience in Java, or similar languages
- Advanced knowledge of software applications and technical processes with considerable in-depth knowledge developing and maintaining code in a large corporate environment
- Ability to lead design and functionality problems independently
- Practical cloud native experience
- Practical experience with multiple data management technologies such as Oracle, Elasticsearch, Kafka
- Experience with project management tools such as Maven or similar
- Experience with React-based UIs
- Familiarity with modern front-end technologies
- Exposure to cloud technologies
