Job Description

About the role

The Java Developer position sits at the heart of our digital product organization, where we deliver scalable backend services that power core customer experiences. You will join a cross‑functional team responsible for building and operating high‑throughput APIs that serve millions of users daily. This role offers the chance to influence architecture decisions, drive performance improvements, and directly impact the reliability of services that customers rely on for their daily tasks.

Our product strategy emphasizes rapid iteration, data‑driven decision making, and a relentless focus on quality. The team operates in an agile environment, delivering incremental value through short sprints while maintaining rigorous standards for observability and security. As a Java Developer you will collaborate closely with product owners, designers, and operations engineers to translate business requirements into robust, maintainable code that can evolve alongside market demands.

The role also provides exposure to a modern technology stack that includes Java, Spring Boot, and MySQL, complemented by JavaScript interactions on the client side. You will work alongside senior engineers who champion best practices in microservice design, automated testing, and continuous delivery. This environment is ideal for professionals who seek to deepen their expertise while contributing to a culture of technical excellence and shared ownership.

What you will do

In this position you will be expected to own the full lifecycle of Java‑based microservices, from design through production support. The following responsibilities illustrate the breadth of work you will undertake.

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java microservices using Spring Boot and related frameworks.
  • Implement and expose RESTful APIs that integrate with internal and external systems.
  • Model and optimize relational data schemas in MySQL, ensuring performance and consistency.
  • Write comprehensive unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests to guarantee code reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews and enforce coding standards across the team.
  • Collaborate with product owners to translate business goals into technical specifications.
  • Contribute to continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines, including automated builds and releases.
  • Monitor production environments, troubleshoot incidents, and implement remediation strategies.
  • Mentor junior developers, sharing knowledge of Java patterns, microservice architecture, and best practices.
  • Document architectural decisions, API contracts, and operational runbooks for future reference.
  • Stay current with emerging industry trends and evaluate new tools for potential adoption.
  • Collaborate with front‑end engineers to ensure seamless JavaScript integration points.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, providing estimates and feedback on sprint outcomes.
  • Conduct performance profiling and tuning to meet latency and throughput targets.
  • Contribute to security reviews, ensuring compliance with data protection and authentication standards.
  • Support on‑call rotations, responding to critical alerts and driving post‑mortem analyses.
Required qualifications

We seek candidates who combine solid academic foundations with progressive professional experience in Java‑centric development. The ideal applicant will have demonstrated the ability to design and ship microservice‑based solutions at scale, while communicating technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience, with a focus on Java applications.
  • Deep practical knowledge of Java 8+ and object‑oriented design principles.
  • Hands‑on experience building and deploying Microservices using Spring Boot.
  • Proficiency in relational database design and SQL querying with MySQL.
  • Strong command of JavaScript (ES6+) for front‑end integration and API consumption.
  • Proven problem‑solving skills, demonstrated through debugging complex production issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, enabling effective collaboration across teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary agile team.
Preferred / nice to have

While not required, the following experiences would strengthen an application and indicate readiness for broader impact.

  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with reactive programming models or event‑driven architectures.
  • Knowledge of GraphQL or other modern API query languages.
  • Hands‑on use of CI/CD tools including Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
  • Exposure to domain‑driven design (DDD) or clean architecture methodologies.
  • Professional certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) or Java development.
  • Prior work in high‑traffic e‑commerce or financial services environments.
Education & certifications

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline is typically expected. While formal certifications are not mandatory, credentials such as Oracle Certified Professional Java SE or relevant cloud certifications are viewed favorably.

Soft skills & ways of working

Success in this role hinges on a set of interpersonal and procedural habits that align with our collaborative culture.

  • Strong ownership of deliverables from concept through to production monitoring.
  • Clarity and brevity when articulating technical decisions to diverse stakeholders.
  • Proactive engagement with product, design, and operations teams to anticipate needs.
  • Adaptability to shifting priorities while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Remote‑first work discipline, including structured daily routines and effective virtual meeting practices.
Hiring process (outline)

Our selection journey typically begins with a recruiter screening, followed by a technical assessment that explores core Java and system design capabilities. Successful candidates then participate in one or more conversation rounds with engineers and product partners, culminating in a final culture‑fit interview. Throughout, we strive to provide timely feedback and a transparent experience.
