Job Summary
The Smart Automation Lead is responsible for developing the technical vision and strategy for Olympus's automation roadmap. This role partners closely with Business Units (BUs) and all IT functions to automate business processes at Olympus. This role leads operations of external Developers and Solution Architects to turn Business and IT requirements into Smart Automation (SAM) solution design automations, clearly defining the systems, interfaces, data and infrastructure of each process automation.
Primary Responsibilities
SMA Strategy
• Establish long-term vision for automation supporting business and digital strategy goals.
• Lay the framework for automation at Olympus using process automation, cognitive and machine learning.
• Leverage the automation capabilities of enterprise applications in Olympus's platform landscape.
SMA Delivery
• Oversee Smart automation (SAM) releases from development, test, and production environments.
• Coordinate SAM infrastructure design, installation, and maintenance with IT leaders.
SMA Standards and Governance
• Develop and enforce automation development standards and monitor quality of SAM.
People Management
• Lead, manage and grow the SAM technical team and all vendor arrangements as the program matures.
• Motivate, develop, and appraise team members so that their individual and collective performance is of the required standard and meets the current and future needs of the business.
• Manage and lead SAM technical team responsible for day-to-day operations and support, development/test/release of new automations.

Technical Competencies:
Solution architecture - Direct the development of architecture for solutions of all levels and establishes policies, principles and practices for the selection of solution architecture components. Manage trade-offs and balances functional, service quality and systems management requirements within the organization
• Innovation - Lead and plan the development of innovation capabilities and implementation of innovation processes, tools and frameworks. Also manage the innovation pipeline while encouraging and motivating innovation communities, teams and individuals to share creative ideas and learn from failures.
• Emerging technology monitoring - Plan and lead the identification, assessment and monitoring of emerging technologies and the evaluation of potential impacts, threats and opportunities. Create technology roadmaps which align organizational plans with emerging technology solutions. Collaborate with internal and external parties to facilitate intelligence gathering.
• Requirements definition and management - Lead scoping, requirements definition and priority setting for complex, strategic programs. Develop organizational policies, standards, and guidelines for requirements definition and management. Set an example for the importance and value of requirements management principles.
• Business process improvement - Direct the identification, evaluation and adoption of technologies to improve business processes, and the creation of a cross-functional, enterprise-wide approach and culture for embracing business process management and improvement.
• Systems development management - Plan and drive system development projects which support the organization's objectives and plans, including the selection of appropriate methods, tools and techniques. Also identify and manage resources, and ensure that technical, financial and quality targets are met.
• Systems design - Drive the development and adoption of organizational policies, standards, guidelines and methods for system design, and provide expert guidance on system design activities for strategic, large and complex systems development programs.
• Systems integration and build - Lead and advise on the integration work in line with the agreed system and service design, ensure risks are assessed and managed, and integration components are thoroughly tested.
• Performance management - Determine and delegate objectives and task responsibilities to individuals or teams — including people management responsibilities as appropriate. Set the quality, performance and capability targets in line with Organizational goals. Monitor performance and working relationships and provide effective feedback to address individual issues.
• Professional development - Assist practitioners with the creation of development plans. Advise and support assigned practitioners, ensuring alignment with professional development plans and career opportunities.
Other Competencies (Behavioral, Leadership)
Minimum Qualifications
Education
• Bachelor's or master's degree, applicable certification ((or equivalent and related experience preferred).
• Enterprise Business Applications certification preferable.
• System Integration Technologies training and certification preferable.
• Certification in Smart Automation Technologies, (PowerApps, Uipath)
Experience
Specialized experience
• Minimum 10 years of experience in designing, building and deploying SAM software and/or Integration Platforms.
• Extensive experience in process optimization and integration technologies (e.g. MuleSoft) and RPA platforms (e.g. Automation Anywhere).
Extensive experience in low code programming (e.g. PowerApps)
• Experience in process mining technologies (e.g. Celonis)
• Significant experience in agile development with specific Solution Architect (or similar) experience preferred.
• Demonstrable experience working with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Design Leads and the rest of technical teams.
Management experience
• Minimum 8 years of experience in managing staff, including work review, performance reviews and day-to-day coaching.
• Experience in successfully managing teams and Executive stakeholders in multiple geographies.
• Experience managing technical priorities within the backlog.
