IT Manager

About the role

MGT Commerce manages the AWS infrastructure powering 5,000+ Magento and Adobe Commerce stores, including brands such as Caterpillar, Deutsche Bahn, and Nintendo. We are looking for an experienced IT Infrastructure & Operations Manager to lead the engineering team that keeps this platform fast, secure, and reliable, 24/7.

You will report directly to the management team in Berlin and own the day-to-day operations of our hosting platform: leading and mentoring our infrastructure engineers, handling escalations, and continuously improving reliability, security, and automation. This is a hands-on leadership role. You manage people first, but you stay close to the technology.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and grow our team of 25 Linux/AWS engineers, including shift and escalation planning
• Own incident management end-to-end: escalations, root-cause analysis
• Manage and optimise our AWS infrastructure (EC2 on Graviton, RDS, VPC, CloudWatch, CloudFront) and the stack on top of it (NGINX, Varnish, Redis, MySQL, PHP-FPM)
• Drive automation to reduce manual work and increase consistency
• Report regularly to the management team on operations, risks, and ongoing projects
• Coordinate with AWS and other vendors where needed

A typical week

• Review platform health and incident trends with the team and set the day's priorities
• Lead a post-incident review and turn it into concrete improvements
• Unblock an engineer during a live escalation without taking the work over
• Plan capacity ahead of peak sales season (Black Friday, Cyber Monday)

What you bring (must-have)

• 5+ years operating production Linux infrastructure
• 2+ years leading or mentoring a technical team
• Strong hands-on AWS experience (EC2, RDS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch)
• Solid Bash/shell scripting and troubleshooting skills
• Comfortable owning critical incidents, including out-of-hours escalations
• Fluent English, our working language with the Berlin management team

Nice to have

• Experience with e-commerce or web hosting environments (Magento, PHP, MySQL, NGINX, Varnish)
• AWS certifications
