Job Description

Job Location: Tanzania

Qualification:

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics/Communication Engineering, or a related discipline (Master's Degree / MBA preferred).

Experience Required:

  • 15–20 years of progressive experience in Information Technology, preferably within manufacturing / process industries, with at least 3–5 years in an IT Head / HOD role.
  • Proven track record of managing enterprise IT infrastructure, ERP/business applications, cybersecurity, and multi-location IT operations is mandatory.
  • Hands-on experience in at least one major ERP implementation, upgrade, or transformation project, including process mapping, master data, UAT, go-live, user adoption, and post-go-live stabilization.

Essential Skills

  • Strong leadership, decision-making, stakeholder management, and people management abilities.
  • Strong understanding of IT strategy, enterprise architecture, infrastructure, networking, servers, storage, cloud services, end-user computing, and communication systems.
  • Expertise in ERP and business applications across Finance, Procurement, Stores, Sales, Production, Maintenance, Quality, HR/Payroll, and Management Information Systems.
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity including identity and access management, endpoint security, firewalls, email security, vulnerability management, patching, logging/monitoring, and incident response.
  • Experience in backup architecture, disaster recovery (DR), business continuity, high availability, and periodic recovery testing.
  • Understanding of manufacturing IT/OT environments and secure coordination with plant automation teams for DCS/PLC/SCADA networks, industrial connectivity, historians, and shop-floor data integration.
  • Strong capability in data governance, master data management, dashboards, analytics, reporting, and integration between ERP and other operational systems.
  • Working knowledge of digital transformation, workflow automation, mobile applications, AI-enabled tools, and practical use cases that improve productivity and decision-making.
  • Strong project management, vendor management, contract/SLA management, IT asset management, licensing, and annual budget control skills.
  • Knowledge of IT policies, audit controls, software licensing, data privacy, ISO/Information Security practices, and relevant statutory/compliance requirements.
  • Key Responsibilities:

    Departmental Leadership

    • Lead the Information Technology Department as HOD, managing the IT team and ensuring reliable support to all business functions and operating locations.
    • Develop the IT strategy, annual operating plan, policies, standards, technology roadmap, and budgets aligned with business objectives.
    • Act as the principal technology partner to management and functional HODs, translating business requirements into practical, secure, and scalable IT solutions.
  • ERP & Business Applications

    • Own the ERP and core business application landscape and ensure systems are properly configured, controlled, integrated, documented, and effectively used by all departments.
    • Drive process standardization, workflow controls, master data governance, user-role design, UAT, change management, and user adoption for ERP and application enhancements.
    • Ensure timely resolution of application issues and maintain a prioritized improvement pipeline based on business impact, control requirements, and return on investment.
  • IT Infrastructure, Network & Cybersecurity

    • Ensure high availability, performance, and security of LAN/WAN, internet links, Wi-Fi, servers, cloud services, storage, endpoints, email, telephony, CCTV/IT interfaces, and other critical IT infrastructure.
    • Establish and enforce cybersecurity controls covering user access, privileged accounts, endpoint protection, firewalls, patching, vulnerability remediation, phishing/email security, and security monitoring.
    • Coordinate periodic security assessments, access reviews, incident response exercises, and corrective actions to reduce cyber and operational technology risks.
  • Manufacturing Systems & IT/OT Coordination

    • Work closely with Production, Electrical, Instrumentation, Maintenance, and Automation teams to ensure secure and reliable connectivity between enterprise systems and plant operational systems.
    • Define appropriate segregation, access control, backup, monitoring, and change-management practices for plant networks and interfaces involving DCS, PLC, SCADA, historians, weighbridges, laboratories, packing/dispatch, and other shop-floor systems.
    • Support projects for automated data capture and system integration so that production, quality, maintenance, energy, inventory, and dispatch information is available accurately and on time.
  • Data, MIS & Digital Transformation

    • Establish a reliable management information architecture with standard definitions, controlled data sources, automated reports, dashboards, and role-based access to business information.
    • Drive digitalization of manual processes using workflows, mobile applications, automation, analytics, and other fit-for-purpose technologies.
    • Evaluate and implement practical AI-enabled solutions where they can improve productivity, analytics, document processing, knowledge access, maintenance, customer service, or decision support while maintaining appropriate data controls.
  • Business Continuity, Governance & Compliance

    • Maintain robust backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity arrangements for critical systems; define RPO/RTO requirements and conduct periodic restoration and DR testing.
    • Maintain IT policies, standard operating procedures, system documentation, asset registers, software/license records, access-control matrices, and audit evidence.
    • Ensure timely closure of internal/external audit observations, cybersecurity findings, compliance gaps, and technology-related risks.

    Vendor, Budget & Service Management

    • Plan and control IT CAPEX/OPEX, licenses, maintenance contracts, telecom costs, cloud subscriptions, and technology purchases with focus on reliability and total cost of ownership.
    • Manage IT vendors and service providers through clear scopes, SLAs, performance reviews, escalation mechanisms, and competitive commercial evaluation.
    • Establish service-management KPIs covering uptime, ticket response/resolution, recurring incidents, cybersecurity compliance, project delivery, user satisfaction, and system adoption.
  • People Development

    • Build, mentor, and motivate a competent IT team with clear roles, accountability, succession plans, and capability development.
    • Conduct regular training and awareness programs on ERP usage, cybersecurity, data discipline, digital tools, and company IT policies.
    • Foster a culture of service orientation, ownership, documentation, continuous improvement, and proactive problem-solving across the IT function.
