Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Intellectual Property Search Analyst responsible for performing prior-art searches and evaluating third-party patent rights. The ideal candidate will work closely with IP managers and product development teams to explore emerging technologies, identify future IP trends, and ensure the intellectual property strategy is sound. This role requires expertise in IP search tools and a robust understanding of patent law.

Main Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Perform prior-art searches for patentability, FTO (Freedom to Operate), and invalidity studies in external and internal patent databases.
  • Facilitate patent mapping and patent landscaping in cooperation with IP Managers and other teams to explore emerging technologies and identify future IP trends.
  • Evaluate third-party patent rights in close cooperation with relevant teams.
  • Evaluate new IP search and analysis tools and benchmark their performance against existing tools.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in biochemistry, biotechnology, life sciences, biology, chemistry, data analytics, or engineering.
  • Proven expertise as an IP search specialist for a multinational corporation or commercial IP search service provider.
  • A qualification as a patent or IP search specialist would be an asset.

Skills

  • Expertise in designing and implementing IP search strategies using commercially available patent search tools like Derwent Innovation, Total Patents, PatSnap, STN, or Questel.
  • Robust understanding of the basics of patent law, with regard to patentability, FTO analyses, and invalidity procedures.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interdisciplinary and intercultural communication skills.
  • Strong team player with high personal resilience and perseverance.
  • Fluent in English.
