Job Description

Role Overview

We are looking for an analytical and business-oriented Inventory Planning & Buying Associate with 3–5 years of experience in Retail, Fashion, E-commerce, or D2C businesses. The role will be responsible for forecasting demand, planning inventory, managing purchase orders, optimizing stock levels, and ensuring product availability while minimizing excess inventory.

Key Responsibilities

Demand Forecasting & Planning

• Analyze historical sales, trends, seasonality, promotions, and new launches to forecast demand.

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and seasonal inventory plans.

• Monitor sales performance and adjust forecasts based on business requirements.

Inventory Management

• Maintain optimum inventory levels across warehouses and sales channels.

• Track Days of Inventory (DOH), Weeks of Cover (WOC), Sell-Through %, and Inventory Turnover.

• Identify slow-moving, excess, and ageing inventory and recommend liquidation plans.

Buying & Replenishment

• Create purchase plans based on demand forecasts and inventory targets.

• Raise and track Purchase Orders (POs) with vendors and manufacturing partners.

• Ensure timely replenishment of fast-moving products to avoid stock-outs.

• Monitor vendor lead times and improve supply reliability.

Assortment & Category Planning

• Work closely with Category, Merchandising, and SCM teams to plan product assortments.

• Analyze SKU-level performance and recommend depth and width planning.

• Support seasonal launches and inventory allocation across channels.

Inventory Optimization

• Drive inventory productivity through effective stock allocation and replenishment.

• Balance inventory across D2C, marketplaces, and offline channels.

• Recommend actions for excess inventory and stock redistribution.

Reporting & Analysis

• Publish weekly and monthly reports covering Sales vs Forecast, Stock Cover, Inventory Ageing, Fill Rate, Stock-Out Analysis, and Open PO Tracking.

• Provide insights to management for inventory and buying decisions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Coordinate with SCM, Finance, Merchandising, Category, Operations, and Vendor teams.

• Ensure smooth execution of buying plans and inventory availability.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience: 3–5 years of proven experience in Inventory Management, E-commerce Operations, or Supply Chain within the Fashion/Retail/D2C sector.
  • Technical Proficiency: * Advanced MS Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, SUMIFS, and data manipulation) are non-negotiable.
  • Hands-on experience with E-commerce ERPs, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), or UniCommerce .
  • Familiarity with marketplace seller panels (Amazon Seller Central, Myntra Partner Portal, etc.).
  • Analytical Mindset: Strong mathematical and analytical skills with an exceptional eye for detail to catch system anomalies early.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to work under pressure, manage tight fulfillment timelines, and handle supply chain bottlenecks independently.
