Role Summary

Team Leader Internal Medicine will lead general medical services within the tertiary eye institute, ensuring safe pre-operative evaluation, effective management of systemic comorbidities, and support for ophthalmology teams. The role focuses on delivering high-quality internal medicine consultations, managing medical emergencies, and enabling integrated care for patients whose systemic conditions impact ocular health.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Provide internal medicine consultations, pre-operative assessments, and medical clearances.
  • Manage systemic conditions relevant to ophthalmic outcomes (e.g., diabetes, hypertension).
  • Handle on-campus medical emergencies and coordinate referrals as needed.

Leadership & Administration

  • Lead the Internal Medicine department, guide physicians and medical officers, and oversee clinical protocols.
  • Ensure regulatory, ethical, and quality compliance across medical services.

Collaboration with Ophthalmology

  • Work closely with ophthalmologists on complex cases requiring combined systemic and ocular management.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary discussions and care planning.

Quality, Safety & Governance

  • Support infection control practices and quality monitoring.
  • Contribute to NABH/NABL/QMS standards and continuous improvement initiatives.

Training & Development

  • Mentor junior medical staff and support educational activities related to systemic disease management.

Qualifications

  • MD/DNB in General Medicine with 15-20 years of relevant experience; leadership exposure preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and ability to work in high-volume, multidisciplinary settings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong communication and patient care skills
  • M.B.B.S. with a specialization in Internal Medicine or equivalent
  • Experience - 4yrs to 15 yrs
