Job Description

Company Description Transgender Welfare Equity and Empowerment Trust (TWEET) is a trans-led, community-based organization founded in 2017 to inspire, empower, and strengthen the young trans* movement in India. The organization places special focus on building and highlighting leadership among transmasculine persons while ensuring equal partnership among trans men and trans women. TWEET works to create an inclusive, stigma-free society where young trans* people can reach their full potential and live with dignity. It provides critical support such as crisis intervention, short-term shelter, health and legal resources, and connections to skill-building and inclusive employment opportunities. TWEET also collaborates with government, civil society, and corporate partners to advance policy-level changes and strategic initiatives for trans welfare.
Role Description This is an on-site internship role based in Mumbai. The Intern will support program activities, community outreach, and documentation related to trans* welfare and empowerment initiatives. Day-to-day tasks may include assisting with event coordination, awareness campaigns, and workshops; helping maintain records, reports, and communication materials; and supporting casework through referrals, follow-ups, and resource mapping under supervision. The Intern will collaborate closely with team members, contribute to social media or content creation as needed, and assist in stakeholder engagement and advocacy efforts. The role offers learning opportunities in community organizing, nonprofit operations, and rights-based work, with clear guidance and mentoring from TWEET staff.

  • Basic skills in communication, including clear writing, active listening, and the ability to engage respectfully with diverse communities.
  • Organizational skills such as time management, attention to detail, and the ability to support documentation, reporting, and event coordination.
  • Comfort with using email, office productivity tools, and social media platforms for outreach and information sharing.
  • Ability to work on-site in Mumbai, collaborate in a small team, and take initiative while following guidance and organizational policies.
  • Relevant academic background or ongoing studies in social work, humanities, gender studies, psychology, law, public health, or related fields is an advantage but not mandatory.
  • Prior volunteer or internship experience in community-based organizations, nonprofits, or advocacy initiatives is beneficial.
