Job Title: Interiors Mechanic

Job Description

The Interiors Mechanic designs and develops automotive interior components from concept to final release, with a strong focus on high-quality CAD modeling, packaging, and cost-effective solutions. This role works closely with cross-functional engineering teams to create and refine interior parts such as instrument panels, consoles, air vents, ducts, pillar trims, and door trims, ensuring they meet geometric, functional, and manufacturing requirements. The position requires extensive hands-on experience in CATIA V5 and a deep understanding of interior trim design, digital pre-assembly, and product development processes.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop interior components such as instrument panels, consoles, air vents, ducts, pillar trims, and door trims from concept to final design within defined timelines.
• Create and refine CAD models in CATIA V5 (parts, surfaces, and drawings) based on engineering direction and product requirements.
• Perform digital pre-assembly and packaging studies to ensure proper fit, function, and integration of interior components within the vehicle.
• Interpret and apply geometric requirements in the context of overall vehicle engineering specifications.
• Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to completed designs to ensure dimensional accuracy and manufacturability.
• Ensure CAD quality complies with established CAD design standards and internal guidelines.
• Monitor and check the progress of design activities, identifying potential issues early and proposing alternative design solutions when necessary.
• Support and facilitate engineering design reviews using collaborative tools such as web conferencing, instant messaging, and email.
• Participate actively in design review meetings, presenting design proposals and providing technical solutions to meet performance, cost, and manufacturing targets.
• Conduct benchmarking activities and contribute to cost-reduction initiatives for interior components.
• Identify and resolve design-related issues throughout the development cycle up to final release.
• Incorporate knowledge of prototyping, manufacturing, and assembly processes into design decisions to ensure feasible and robust interior solutions.
• Design products to meet defined cost targets while maintaining quality and performance standards.
• Use Teamcenter and Vismockup to manage product data and perform virtual validation of interior assemblies.
• Collaborate effectively with customers and cross-functional teams, maintaining strong working relationships and clear communication.
• Apply structured problem-solving methods, such as 8D or Six Sigma, to address design and development issues.
• Manage multiple design tasks and projects simultaneously, prioritizing work to meet milestones and deadlines.
• Prepare and maintain design documentation, reports, and presentations using MS Office tools.
  
  

Essential Skills

• Extensive hands-on experience in CATIA V5, including part modeling, surface modeling, and drawing creation.
• Strong in designing automotive interior trims and components from concept to final design.
• Proficiency in surface modeling for complex plastic trim components such as instrument panels, consoles, ducts, and pillar trims.
• Sound knowledge of packaging studies and master section creation for interior components.
• Ability to interpret engineering requirements and translate them into robust CAD designs.
• Experience applying GD&T to ensure dimensional accuracy and proper fit of components.
• Familiarity with digital pre-assembly and virtual validation of interior assemblies.
• Experience with Teamcenter and Vismockup for product data management and visualization.
• Knowledge of prototyping, manufacturing, and assembly processes for interior components, particularly plastic trims.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills using methodologies such as 8D or Six Sigma.
• Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills with customers and cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency with MS Office tools for documentation, reporting, and presentations.
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work independently within defined processes.
