Job Title: Interior Designer
Job Description
This role focuses on designing high-quality interior components for automotive applications using UG NX. The interior designer will create and refine 3D models and detailed drawings, with a strong emphasis on plastic part design, injection molding, and manufacturability. The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams throughout the automotive product development cycle, while leveraging PLM tools to manage designs efficiently and accurately.
Responsibilities
- Create and modify 3D models, detailed drawings, and assemblies in UG NX for automotive interior components.
- Design plastic parts optimized for injection molding, ensuring manufacturability, durability, and aesthetic quality.
- Apply DFM, DFA, and DFx principles to improve product quality, reduce complexity, and streamline manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Incorporate basic GD&T and tolerance analysis into designs to ensure proper fit, function, and performance of interior components.
- Use Teamcenter or similar PLM tools to manage CAD data, revisions, and product structures throughout the design lifecycle.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and other stakeholders to support the automotive product development cycle from concept to production.
- Review and refine designs based on feedback, test results, and engineering changes to meet performance and quality targets.
- Prepare and maintain accurate design documentation, including drawings, models, and technical specifications.
Essential Skills
- Strong hands-on experience in UG NX, including modeling, drafting, and assemblies.
- Expertise in plastic part design and injection molding processes.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and DFx principles.
- Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance analysis.
- Experience with Teamcenter or similar Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
- Good understanding of the automotive product development cycle.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams.
- Strong attention to detail in modeling, drafting, and documentation.
- Good problem-solving skills to address design and manufacturability challenges.
- Effective communication skills to present and discuss design concepts and changes.
Work Environment
The role operates in a professional engineering environment that relies heavily on CAD and PLM tools such as UG NX and Teamcenter. Work typically takes place in an office or design studio setting with access to modern computing equipment and collaboration tools. The position involves regular interaction with engineering, manufacturing, and product development teams across the automotive development cycle, with a focus on precision, documentation quality, and adherence to established design and release processes. Dress code generally aligns with a standard professional or business-casual office environment.
