About the Role
We are a leading pharmaceutical company seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Manager /AGM– Legal (Intellectual Property Rights) to manage our global intellectual property portfolio. The role will be responsible for entire TM and brand portfolio management in India and overseas, encompassing trademark and brand protection, enforcement, risk mitigation, and implementation of best-in-class IPR practices across domestic and international markets.
The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in trademark law, IP enforcement, litigation, and global brand protection, along with the ability to proactively safeguard the organization's intellectual assets.
Key Responsibilities
Intellectual Property Portfolio Management
- Monitor and track key developments, legislative changes, judicial precedents, and emerging trends in domestic and global Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) laws.
- Assess the impact of legal and regulatory developments on the organization's IP portfolio and recommend appropriate actions.
- Develop and implement strategies for effective protection, enforcement, and commercialization of intellectual property assets.
Global Trademark Management
- Take ownership of the organization's global trademark & brands portfolio and ensure timely registration and protection and enforcement and defence strategies across international markets.
- Identify, appoint, and manage external IP counsels, trademark agents, and law firms across various territories.
- Monitor global trademark watch reports and take proactive measures against conflicting marks and potential infringements.
Trademark Protection & Enforcement
- Maintain vigilant oversight of the company's trademark portfolio and proactively safeguard exclusive rights.
- Initiate and manage trademark oppositions, rectification proceedings, cancellation actions, infringement proceedings, and passing-off actions as required.
- Coordinate and oversee legal actions against trademark infringements, counterfeiting activities, and unauthorized use of company brands.
- Ensure timely renewal, prosecution, maintenance, and protection of trademarks across all jurisdictions.
Brand Protection & Enforcement
- Monitor trademark watch reports and identify potential conflicts, infringements, counterfeiting, and unauthorized use of company brands.
- Lead trademark oppositions, rectifications, cancellations, infringement, passing-off, and other enforcement actions in coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
- Recommend and execute appropriate legal strategies to protect and defend the organization's IP rights globally.
IP Governance & Operational Excellence
- Establish and continuously improve IP management processes, documentation standards, compliance frameworks, and reporting systems.
- Develop dashboards and management reports for effective monitoring of the IP portfolio and litigation matters.
- Mentor team members on trademark management, IP compliance, and best practices.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
- Oversee digitization, secure storage, indexing, archival, and maintenance of all IP, trademark, and litigation records to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and compliance.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognized university.
- 10–15 years of relevant experience in Intellectual Property Rights, Trademark Law, Brand Protection, and IP Enforcement.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, FMCG, consumer products, sectors will be preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Indian and international trademark laws, IP regulations, and enforcement mechanisms.
- Experience in managing global trademark portfolios and coordinating with international counsels.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and legal research skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
