Job Description

The Product organization is recruiting a Vice President - Data Product Development to support the Data Management Lead on a global basis. This role focuses on shaping and delivering Insurance Accounting and Investment Accounting data products and capabilities, working in close partnership with Product, Finance, Operations, Technology, Architecture, Actuarial (where applicable), and Enterprise Data teams.

The role has accountability across:

  • Core Insurance Accounting data domains (policy, premium, claims, reserves, reinsurance, sub-ledger, postings, balances)

  • Core Investment Accounting data domains (positions, lots, transactions, valuations, income, corporate actions, accruals, postings)

  • Financial close, sub-ledger to GL reconciliation, and control frameworks

  • Client and enterprise data delivery channels (APIs, reports, finance dashboards)

  • Logical and canonical data models aligned to accounting and operating models

  • Cloud-native data platforms and analytics capabilities

  • Evolution from statutory and management reporting toward insight-driven finance use cases

This role supports the objective to strengthen State Street's Finance and Asset Servicing proposition through a practical, data-driven operating model. The VP is expected to combine strong product judgement with hands-on delivery leadership, influencing outcomes through collaboration rather than hierarchy.

Function

As a senior data and product practitioner, you will work with Insurance Accounting and Investment Accounting leads to help define priorities and execute the data agenda described above. The role reports into the Head of Data, Product Development.

You will contribute to the evolution of accounting data capabilities by incorporating regulatory requirements, industry standards, and stakeholder input from Finance, Operations, Technology, Risk, and Coverage. The role balances strategic thinking with a strong delivery mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and execute the Insurance Accounting and Investment Accounting data product strategy, ensuring alignment to business objectives, regulatory requirements, and client needs.

  • Lead delivery of accounting data product models, partnering with Technology, Architecture, Finance Operations, and Enterprise Data Management across:

    • Logical and canonical data models aligned to accounting workflows (sub-ledger, valuation, posting, close)

    • Adoption of relevant industry standards and internal enterprise models

  • Data channels and products: Act as Product Owner for accounting data products, including finance APIs, regulatory and management reporting, and analytics dashboards.

  • Ensure alignment between accounting capabilities, data models, and statutory, regulatory, and management reporting use cases.

  • Support and embed data governance, lineage, and data quality controls across accounting data assets, in line with enterprise policy and regulatory expectations.

  • Partner with Finance and Risk teams to enable reconciliations, controls, and auditability across Insurance and Investment Accounting data flows.

  • Work closely with Technology teams through iterative delivery cycles to ensure solutions meet architectural standards and are fit for purpose.

  • Enable improvements in accounting transparency and efficiency through dashboards, close metrics, exception reporting, and control monitoring.

  • Support management of data-related risks, issues, and audit items within Finance and Accounting domains, escalating where appropriate.

  • Present updates and outcomes to senior stakeholders and lead defined initiatives or workstreams.

Skills

  • Strong experience in data product development, data modelling, analytics, and financial reporting.

  • Solid understanding of Insurance Accounting (e.g., premiums, claims, reserves, reinsurance, sub-ledgers) and/or Investment Accounting (positions, valuations, income, postings).

  • Familiarity with accounting close, reconciliation, and control processes.

  • Ability to translate accounting and finance requirements into scalable data solutions.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to communicate data and accounting concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience delivering change in complex, regulated environments.

  • Working knowledge of modern data management, BI, dashboarding, and visualization approaches.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills within global, matrixed organizations.

  • Experience working with Agile or hybrid delivery models.

  • Experience with business and system process modelling.

Experience

  • Typically, 10+ years experience within Financial Services, with exposure to Insurance Accounting, Investment Accounting, Fund Accounting, or adjacent Finance domains.

  • Experience in Product, Data, or Finance roles with responsibility for delivery and senior stakeholder engagement.

  • Experience operating across regions and working with global stakeholders.

  • Background in data and technology, with familiarity across platforms and tools such as SQL, Python, Snowflake, BI/visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Sigma), and data governance tooling (e.g., Collibra).

  • Consultative mindset with a strong finance and service orientation.

  • Experience delivering data solutions addressing complex accounting integration challenges.
