Job Description

The Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, security, and ongoing support of the organisation's core IT infrastructure across on-premise and cloud environments. The role requires hands-on expertise across servers, networks, security, virtualisation, monitoring, automation, and cloud platforms (AWS and Microsoft 365). The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams, external suppliers, and business stakeholders to ensure a secure, reliable, and high-performing technology estate aligned to operational and regulatory requirements.

Infrastructure Operations And Support

The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:

  • Provide advanced support for Windows Server, Linux environments, and desktop platforms.
  • Maintain and improve Active Directory, Group Policy, SSO, user/account lifecycle, and identity services.
  • Manage virtualisation platforms (Hyper-V, Proxmox) and maintain high-availability environments.
  • Administer networking technologies, including switches, VLANs, Wi-Fi, VPN and site-to-site tunnels.
  • Lead system upgrades, patching, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation across all infrastructure components.

Cloud And Platform Management

  • Administer and support Microsoft 365 including O365 administration, Exchange Online, Purview, and email governance.
  • Manage AWS environments, covering budgeting, cost optimisation, architecture, IAM, and Lambda functions.
  • Support SQL Server administration, SSRS reporting, and database optimisation.

Security, Backup And Monitoring

  • Implement and maintain security best practices, ensuring data protection and compliance.
  • Manage email security controls (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
  • Operate endpoint protection solutions such as Check Point.
  • Conduct vulnerability scanning using Nessus/Qualys and drive remediation activities.
  • Administer backup platforms, including Barracuda Essentials and Barracuda Backup.
  • Monitor infrastructure using tools such as Zabbix and ensure proactive response to incidents.
  • Contribute to and maintain DR, BCP, and operational resilience strategies.

Network And Firewall Administration

  • Manage Cisco Meraki network infrastructure and Cisco Firewalls.
  • Troubleshoot and optimise connectivity across offices, remote workers, and cloud environments.

Automation, Scripting And Tooling

  • Develop and maintain automation and operational tooling using PowerShell and Bash.
  • Maintain and support TFS as required for internal development pipelines.

Governance, Documentation And Supplier Management

  • Produce and maintain documentation, diagrams, and operational guides.
  • Contribute to cross-training across the technology team.
  • Manage supplier relationships, contract renewals, and budget responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to data security and information security policies.
