Job Description

ESG Consultant – GHG & Decarbonisation Specialist

Bangalore (On-site) || 2–4 Years Experience Required

About This Role

As an Industrial GHG Specialist at Breathe ESG, you will hold a pivotal dual mandate. You will be responsible for leading the end-to-end delivery of GHG accounting and decarbonization projects for our industrial clients in hard-to-abate sectors. Simultaneously, you will serve as the lead Subject Matter Expert (SME) for our Product Development team, guiding the architectural design and automation of industrial-specific carbon accounting and decarbonization functionalities on the Breathe ESG platform.

Core Responsibilities

1. Industrial Client Delivery & Advisory

  • GHG Inventory Management: Lead technical delivery engagements for clients across steel, cement, chemicals, automotive, and other manufacturing sectors. Responsible for accurate quantification, analysis, and reporting of Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, ensuring data integrity, methodological consistency, and audit readiness.
  • Industrial Process Emissions: Apply deep technical expertise in quantifying non-combustion process emissions using stoichiometric, mass-balance, and process-specific calculation methodologies relevant to complex industrial operations and material transformation processes.
  • Regulatory & Framework Compliance: Drive compliance and reporting activities aligned with the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS), Green Steel certification requirements, Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme cycles, and other evolving global industrial GHG and decarbonization frameworks.

2. Product Development (Industrial Focus)

  • Feature Architecture: Define the functional logic and emission factor hierarchies required to automate industrial carbon accounting and decarbonization modules on the platform.
  • Automated Reporting: Lead the design of audit-ready data export functionalities, ensuring the platform generates reports in the exact formats required by various regulatory bodies (e.g., PAT Cycle, CCTS, Green steel certification and CBAM specific templates).
  • Sectoral Capabilities: Continuously improve the platform's decarbonization pathway modeling specifically for heavy manufacturing workflows.

Technical Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 4-5 years of demonstrated experience in GHG accounting, energy calculations, and emissions reporting within hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, cement, chemicals, or heavy manufacturing. Proven ability to manage complex industrial emissions data and support regulatory and sustainability reporting requirements.
  • Methodology Expertise: Strong expertise in Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) assessments in accordance with ISO 14067, GHG quantification and reporting under ISO 14064, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies. Ability to evaluate manufacturing processes, identify relevant emission sources, and apply appropriate GHG calculation methodologies across diverse industrial operations.
  • Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of industrial greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting requirements, including CBAM and CCTS frameworks, with the ability to quickly interpret and adapt to evolving regulatory standards. Proven experience in audit preparedness, documentation management, and supporting compliance reviews across industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Education: Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field.
