Job Title: Product Design Intern

Type: Paid Internship (Onsite)
Duration: 3–6 Months
Role Summary
This role is for individuals interested in product design, with a focus on 3D design, modeling, and sculpting.
The intern will work on creating visually appealing, functional, and manufacturable products using hard surface modeling, Class-A surfacing, and digital sculpting, while collaborating with engineering teams on product
development and prototyping.
Hiring is based more on design ability, thinking process, and portfolio quality than on academic background.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create 3D models for toys and products using hard surface modeling, surfacing, and sculpting techniques
- Work on Class-A surfaces and engineering surfaces with attention to quality and continuity
- Develop concepts through 2D sketching, ideation, and iteration
- Apply understanding of contour lines, proportions, and surface flow in design development
- Perform digital sculpting for organic and character-based forms
- Generate renders and visual outputs to communicate ideas
- Collaborate with engineering teams for feasibility and product development
- Prepare files for 3D printing and prototyping
- Iterate designs based on feedback, usability, and manufacturability
Required Skills & Qualifications
1. Core Design Skills
- Strong understanding of form, proportion, and aesthetics
- Ability to generate multiple design concepts and explore ideas
- Basic sketching and visualization skills to communicate concepts
- Clear understanding of the design workflow (concept → model → refine → prototype)
2. 3D Design & Digital Skills
- Working knowledge of 3D modeling tools (Blender, Rhino, Alias, or similar)
Understanding of:
- Hard surface modeling (product and mechanical forms)
- Surface modeling / Class-A surfacing
- Digital sculpting (organic and character-based forms)
- Ability to create clean, well-structured 3D models
- Basic rendering skills to present design intent
- Awareness of part assembly, fit, and basic functionality
3. Toy & Product Design Sensibility
- Ability to design engaging, playful, and visually appealing products
- Understanding of character, expression, and personality in design
- Awareness of ergonomics and user interaction
4. CMF & Detail Awareness
- Basic understanding of CMF (Color, Material, Finish)
- Awareness of materials, textures, and finishes
- Strong attention to detail, surface quality, and overall product feel
5. Prototyping & Practical Skills
- Interest or exposure to 3D printing and prototyping workflows
- Ability to evaluate designs physically (scale, usability, form)
- Willingness to iterate and refine designs based on feedback
6. Engineering Awareness (Basic)
- Understanding of how parts fit and assemble
- Awareness of basic manufacturability considerations
- Basic knowledge of tolerances and clearances
- Consideration of durability and real-world usage
