Job Description

Role & responsibilities:

  • Tax Compliance and Reporting:
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of indirect tax returns (such as VAT, GST, and customs declarations).
  • Maintain up-to-date records of transactions and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
  • Prepare and submit tax reports to relevant authorities.

  • Tax Planning and Strategy:
  • Advise on structuring transactions in a tax-efficient manner.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in indirect tax laws and regulations to recommend strategic approaches for the business.

  • Audit and Risk Management:
  • Review internal processes and transactions to minimize the risk of indirect tax errors.
  • Handle indirect tax audits from tax authorities and respond to any queries or investigations.
  • Develop and implement internal controls to ensure compliance and mitigate the risk of tax penalties.

  • Customs and Import/Export Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with customs duties and other relevant taxes for imports and exports.
  • Maintain accurate records of international transactions and coordinate with customs authorities.

  • Advisory on Contracts and Pricing:
  • Provide guidance on indirect tax implications for various contracts, including sales, procurement, and international transactions.
  • Advise on pricing strategies that comply with tax regulations and optimize tax outcomes.

  • Training and Awareness:
  • Train internal teams on indirect tax compliance and changes in the tax landscape.
  • Ensure that relevant departments (such as finance, procurement, and sales) are aware of indirect tax issues impacting their operations.

  • Liaison with Authorities:
  • Act as the main point of contact with tax authorities for all indirect tax matters.
  • Participate in discussions or negotiations with tax authorities regarding assessments, disputes, or refunds.

  • Reconciliation and Documentation:
  • Ensure that tax-related data is accurately reconciled in the company's financial records.
  • Maintain proper documentation to substantiate the company's tax position in case of audits or disputes.

  • Implementation of New Tax Laws:
  • Oversee the implementation of new indirect tax laws or changes to existing laws within the organization.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as IT or finance, to ensure system updates align with tax changes.
