About IETAIETA is a non-profit organisation representing businesses committed to smart, well-designed and effective carbon markets to help achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and reach net-zero emissions by 2050.Role SummaryThe International Policy Intern will support IETA's policy team in tracking and analysing developments under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The core focus of the role is research and data work: reviewing official country reporting documents, monitoring independent crediting programme registries, and tracking the full lifecycle of ITMOs — from early-stage MOUs through to Letters of Authorisation and actual ITMO transfers. A key deliverable is supporting the development of IETA's public-facing Article 6 trackers, including contributing to data visualisations. The role may also provide ad hoc support on APAC market developments.Key Responsibilities
  • Review host country Annual Information (AEF), initial reports, regular information reports, and Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs) submitted by the Parties, as well as Article 6.2 Letters of Authorisation (LoAs).
  • Access independent crediting programme registries to gather and verify data relevant to Article 6.
  • Track the Article 6 pipeline across the full ITMO lifecycle, from bilateral MOUs and government agreements through to LoA issuance and ITMO transfers.
  • Contribute to IETA's public Article 6 trackers, including data entry, maintenance, and the development of data visualisations.
  • Provide ad hoc research support on APAC carbon market developments as required.
Qualifications & ExperienceEssential
  • Undergraduate or postgraduate degree (completed or in progress) in a relevant field such as environmental policy, international relations, economics, law, or a related discipline.
  • Strong research, analytical, and written communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrable interest in climate policy, carbon markets, or international environmental governance.
  • Basic data visualisation skills — ability to present data clearly using Excel, Flourish, Airtable, Power BI, or similar tools.
Desirable
  • Prior knowledge of Article 6 mechanisms, ITMOs, or the Paris Agreement rulebook.
  • Familiarity with independent crediting programme registries (Verra, Gold Standard, or similar).
  • Experience building interactive dashboards or public-facing data tools.
  • Familiarity with APAC carbon markets (e.g. Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, China).
  • Additional language skills relevant to APAC markets.
