Role Description The Humanities Writing Coach will provide one-on-one and small-group coaching to high school students working on humanities-oriented research and writing projects. This part-time, remote role involves guiding students through topic selection, argument development, literature engagement, and structuring long-form academic work. The coach will review drafts, offer detailed written and verbal feedback, and help students refine clarity, style, and rigor in their writing. Day-to-day tasks include holding virtual coaching sessions, annotating student work, supporting research and citation practices, and tracking progress toward publication-oriented milestones. The coach will collaborate with the broader mentor team to maintain high academic standards and ensure a supportive, inclusive learning experience.

Qualifications

  • Strong coaching skills, including Book Coaching and general Coaching, with the ability to guide learners at different levels of experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in Writing and Creative Writing, especially in humanities or related disciplines.
  • Solid Research skills, including familiarity with scholarly sources, citation practices, and humanities methodologies.
  • Experience mentoring or teaching high school or early undergraduate students, preferably in writing-intensive settings.
  • Advanced degree in a humanities field (e.g., literature, history, philosophy, cultural studies) or equivalent scholarly experience is preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to give clear, constructive, and encouraging feedback.
  • Comfort working independently in a remote environment, managing a part-time schedule, and using online collaboration and video-conferencing tools.
  • Commitment to inclusive, gender-neutral, and non-discriminatory mentoring practices, and openness to working with students from diverse backgrounds and countries.
