We are running a research initiative focused on understanding, categorising, and analysing human movement across wellness, fitness, martial arts, rehabilitation, and everyday physical activity using video-based observation. The work involves building structured movement knowledge from diverse, real-world motions.
Selected Intern's Day-to-day Responsibilities Include
- Movement Classification & Taxonomy
- Identify and define categories of human movement across:
- Yoga, Pilates, dance fitness (e.g. Zumba-style routines)
- Martial arts and combat training
- Bodyweight and functional training
- Mobility, rehabilitation, balance, and recovery
- Group movements by biomechanical characteristics, not brand names.
- Video-Based Movement Analysis
- Analyse human motion from videos:
- Body alignment
- Joint usage and range of motion
- Balance, symmetry, and transitions
- Break complex sequences into meaningful movement units.
- Dataset Curation & Quality Control
- Source and curate high-quality movement videos from public and licensed sources.
- Evaluate videos for:
- Clarity of movement
- Camera stability and framing
- Representativeness across cultures, body types, and ages
- Identify redundancy, gaps, and biases in collections.
- Annotation Framework Design
- Design structured annotation schemas for describing movement:
- Static postures vs dynamic sequences
- Transitions and flow
- Tempo and intensity
- Document clear annotation guidelines.
- Research Documentation - Write concise notes explaining:
- Why categories exist
- Why are some movements excluded
- Trade-offs in classification decisions
What You Will Not Do
- No content writing or influencer outreach
- No workout recording or coaching
- No hardware, sensors, or wearables needed
