Job Description

How You'll Help Us Keep Climbing (Overview & Key Responsibilities)

The HR SysOps Lead Specialist (SAP Payroll) provides day‑to‑day functional payroll system support, with primary accountability for payroll reporting execution, reconciliation, analysis, and documentation.

This role strengthens payroll operational stability by delivering repeatable, high‑quality reporting, responding to ad hoc business requests, and documenting current‑state payroll configuration, schemas, and business rules to improve transparency, supportability, and long‑term maintainability.

The analyst partners closely with onshore Payroll SYSOPS leaders while remaining explicitly execution‑focused, ensuring strategic, compliance, and configuration decisions remain onshore.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Focus Area: Payroll Reporting & Functional Support (75–85%)

  • Payroll Production Reporting & Analysis
  • Execute scheduled and on‑demand payroll reports across all in‑scope payroll areas
  • Deliver reconciliation, audit, variance, and compliance reporting aligned with payroll cycles
  • Review and analyze new reporting or data requests; clarify requirements and validate outputs
  • Maintain reporting calendars to ensure timely and predictable delivery
  • Data Validation & Reconciliation
  • Perform payroll data reconciliations between SAP Payroll and downstream systems
  • Identify discrepancies, unexpected variances, or missing transactions
  • Conduct initial root‑cause analysis and escalate findings with structured documentation
  • Support validation of payroll true‑ups and adjustments
  • Production Issue Identification
  • Proactively monitor payroll results for recurring issues and emerging trends
  • Maintain issue logs with supporting data and analysis
  • Enable faster resolution by providing clear, evidence‑based insights to onshore teams

Secondary Focus Area: Documentation & Knowledge Enablement (15–25%)

  • Payroll Configuration, Schema & Business Rules Documentation
  • Document current‑state payroll configuration, including:
    • Payroll schemas and rules (as‑is)
    • Wage type usage and dependencies
    • Key integration touchpoints and data flows
  • Translate technical structures into clear, supportable documentation for operations and onboarding
  • Maintain documentation as a single source of truth for payroll operational knowledge
Note: Documentation is strictly observational and referential; this role does not design, modify, or approve payroll configuration.

  • Process Documentation & Continuous Improvement
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for:
    • Reporting execution
    • Validation and reconciliation steps
    • Issue logging and escalation
  • Identify opportunities to standardize, simplify, and reduce manual effort
What You Need To Succeed (Minimum Qualifications)

Required Skills & Experience

Functional (Payroll)

  • 7- 12 years of experience supporting payroll operations in a high‑volume, production environment
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Science, Business/Management, Mathematics/Statistics, Economics, or other relevant quantitative field.
  • Experience supporting payroll operations in a high volume, production environment
  • Strong understanding of US SAP payroll data structures, including:
  • Wage types and payroll results
  • Payroll schemas and rules (as is understanding, not design authority)
  • Retroactivity and payroll adjustments
  • Hands on experience with payroll reporting, reconciliation, and audit support
  • Ability to interpret payroll outputs and identify data anomalies, variances, or trends
  • Understanding of payroll upstream and downstream dependencies (e.g., Time, Finance, interfaces)

Technical / Tools

  • Experience with SAP Payroll reporting tools (preferred), including:
  • SAP standard payroll reports
  • Query based or custom reporting outputs
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills:
  • Pivot tables
  • Data comparisons and reconciliations
  • Variance analysis
  • Ability to work effectively with large, complex datasets
  • Experience documenting system configuration, data flows, and operational processe

Documentation & Knowledge Management

  • Demonstrated ability to create clear, structured documentation, including:
  • Current state payroll configuration and schemas (observational)
  • Business rules and processing logic
  • Standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ability to translate technical payroll concepts into supportable, operational documentation
  • Experience contributing to knowledge transfer and onboarding enablement
