Job Description

Job Title: HR - Compliance & Legal Affairs

Company: BonV Technology Pvt. Ltd.

Industry: Aerial Mobility Solutions

Department: Human Resources

Location: Bhubaneswar (On-site)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Company Overview

BonV Technology Pvt. Ltd. (BonV Aero) is a Bhubaneswar-based deep-tech startup founded in 2021, pioneering carbon-free smart aerial mobility through eVTOL platforms and autonomous drone systems for defence, disaster relief, and logistics — backed by Tim Draper and Unicorn India Ventures, and recognised globally as the winner of Meet the Drapers Season 6. With deployments including the Indian Army and selection for both the US DoD/DHS I2A Launchpad and the UK MoD's UASHLC Framework, we are scaling rapidly and strengthening our legal and compliance function to match our global ambitions.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Legal & Compliance professional to join our growing team as HR Executive — Compliance & Legal Affairs. This is not an entry-level position — we are looking for someone with at least 2 years of hands-on experience in corporate legal work, compliance management, or related legal functions, ideally within a technology, deep-tech, aerospace, or manufacturing environment. You will own critical legal and compliance responsibilities, work directly with senior leadership and external counsel, and play a key role in managing BonV Aero's growing national and international legal obligations. If you are a legal professional who thrives in a fast-moving, mission-driven environment, this is your opportunity to build something meaningful.

Roles & Responsibilities

Legal Document Management

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize contracts, NDAs, MoUs, vendor agreements, service agreements, and technology licensing agreements.
  • Ensure all legal documentation is compliant with applicable Indian laws, regulations, and internal company policies.
  • Own and maintain the company's legal document repository, including tracking renewals, amendments, and expiry timelines.
  • Provide independent legal guidance to internal business teams on contractual obligations and risk mitigation.

Compliance & Audit Management

  • Lead and manage internal compliance audits across departments, ensuring adherence to regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Coordinate independently with external auditors, statutory bodies, and regulatory authorities during audit cycles.
  • Identify compliance gaps, develop corrective action plans, and track closure with relevant teams.
  • Prepare and maintain audit summaries, compliance trackers, regulatory checklists, and statutory filing calendars.
  • Ensure timely filing of all statutory returns, regulatory submissions, and legal notices.

National & International Legal Engagement

  • Conduct independent research and advisory on cross-border legal matters, international trade laws, export-import regulations, and aerospace-specific compliance frameworks.
  • Manage and coordinate with international legal partners and counsel on foreign jurisdiction requirements — including US, UK, and EU regulatory environments.
  • Support business development and operations with legal due diligence documentation for partnerships, JVs, and government contracts.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments domestically and internationally and proactively brief leadership on compliance implications.

Corporate Governance & Advisory

  • Develop, maintain, and periodically update legal policies, SOPs, and compliance frameworks aligned to company growth.
  • Manage correspondence and working relationships with external law firms, notaries, and legal consultants.
  • Support and coordinate dispute resolution documentation, litigation tracking, and interface with external litigation counsel.
  • Advise leadership on corporate governance best practices and regulatory strategy as the company scales internationally.

Requirements Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognised university — mandatory.
  • LLM or MBA with Corporate Law / Compliance specialization is a strong advantage.
  • Enrollment with the Bar Council of India (BCI) is preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of post-qualification legal/compliance experience in a corporate legal team, law firm, or compliance function — mandatory.

Experience We Are Looking For

  • Independent contract drafting, reviewing, and negotiation experience in a corporate or law firm environment.
  • Hands-on compliance management, internal auditing, or regulatory liaison experience.
  • Practical legal research experience on Indian or international regulatory and trade matters.
  • Experience managing legal document repositories, statutory filings, and regulatory submissions.
  • Prior exposure to aerospace, drone, defence, technology, or manufacturing sectors is a significant plus.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Odia or Hindi is an added advantage.
  • Strong working knowledge of Indian corporate laws — Companies Act, Contract Act, IP laws, Labour laws, FEMA/export control frameworks.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver under tight timelines. • High degree of legal precision, attention to detail, and analytical thinking.
  • Integrity, confidentiality, and professional conduct are non-negotiable.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel); experience with legal tech or contract management platforms is a plus.

What We Offer

  • A front-row seat at one of India's most exciting deep-tech startups — working on real aerospace, defence, and international legal matters.
  • Direct exposure to national and international legal work from day one, including US, UK, and EU regulatory environments.
  • Competitive compensation with performance-linked increments and growth opportunities.
  • Mentorship from experienced legal and leadership professionals in a high-growth environment.
  • Professional development support including certifications, training programs, and industry exposure.
  • Health and wellness benefits as per company policy.
  • Inclusive, collaborative workplace culture with open-door leadership.

We look forward to welcoming enthusiastic individuals eager to contribute to a growing and dynamic environment.
