A welder (MIG/ARC) is a skilled tradesperson responsible for joining, fabricating, and repairing metal components using specialized machinery. They interpret blueprints, prepare materials, and operate equipment to exacting specifications, ensuring all structural bonds meet strict industry and safety standards.

Core Responsibilities
Equipment Setup: Calibrate, configure, and operate both Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW/ARC) machines.
Material Preparation: Read blueprints, structural drawings, and welding symbols to clean, cut, and fit metal pieces together prior to welding.
Execution: Perform structural welds in various positions (e.g., vertical, overhead, flat) while controlling the heat to prevent metal warping or distortion.
Post-Welding: Grind, buff, and inspect the finished welds for structural integrity, defects, or porosity using precision instruments.
Safety & Maintenance: Strictly follow safety protocols (PPE), wear protective gear, and maintain a clean work environment, including daily machine upkeep.
Key Skills & Requirements
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of metal properties (steel, stainless steel, aluminum), wire electrodes, and shielding gases.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy materials (up to 20 kg), and work in confined or extreme-temperature environments.
Education/Certification: Typically requires an ITI Welder (Industrial Training Institute) diploma, vocational training, or completed apprenticeship, alongside recognized certifications.
