Job Description

The Team:

You will lead the growing High‑Integrity Software (HIS) engineering group within JLR's Vehicle Platform (VP) team at TBSI. This team develops high‑integrity propulsion control software for next‑generation electric, hybrid and conventional vehicles. The group spans Functional Safety Engineers, High‑Integrity Software Engineers, and Process/QA Engineers working on safety‑critical embedded control systems.

The Role:

This role combines line management responsibility with technical leadership across safety‑critical embedded software development. You will build, lead and mentor a high‑performing team delivering model‑based control software, Functional Safety work products and ASPICE‑compliant processes. You will ensure engineering excellence, robust project execution, and a culture that puts safety and quality first. The team size will initially be around 15 people, but with potential for further growth in the future.

Responsibilities:

  • Build, lead, mentor and line‑manage a multi‑disciplinary HIS engineering team, including recruitment, developing technical capability and supporting career growth.
  • Provide technical leadership across safety‑critical software engineering, model‑based development and ASPICE/ISO 26262‑aligned delivery.
  • Ensure disciplined application of modelling guidelines, coding standards, verification practices and safety processes across all team outputs.
  • Oversee planning, prioritisation and execution of team activities, managing resources, tracking progress and addressing engineering risks.
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes, tools, workflows and engineering practices in collaboration with the core UK HIS, FuSa and Software teams.
  • Support compliance activities including audits, assessments and evidence preparation for ISO 26262, ASPICE and internal QMS requirements.
  • Represent the offshore HIS team in design reviews, technical forums and governance meetings, providing clear status, risk visibility and escalation where required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Strong background in safety‑critical embedded software, with experience in model‑based development (MATLAB/Simulink).
  • Solid understanding of ISO 26262, ASPICE and high‑integrity development processes, or equivalent standards from other industries.
  • Broad appreciation of the full software lifecycle, from requirements through architecture, detailed design, unit construction, verification, integration and qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams or technical groups.
  • Ability to influence across functions and locations, with strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • Strong process and quality mindset with a focus on disciplined engineering.

Desirable:

  • Experience in automotive control systems, especially propulsion, torque control or EV/HEV systems.
  • Familiarity with model/code quality tools, ECU toolchains and automotive communication protocols.
  • Experience working with distributed/onshore‑offshore delivery models.
  • Automotive experience preferred, but strong candidates from similar industries will also be considered (e.g. defence, aerospace, medical, IoT, rail).

Personal Profile:

  • Supportive, credible and confident technical leader who inspires trust.
  • Proactive, organised and resilient, able to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to challenge constructively.
  • Collaborative and culturally aware, effective working across global teams.
  • Committed to continuous improvement, safety and high‑quality engineering.
