Role Summary:
We are seeking an accomplished, visionary leader to establish and drive our Healthcare Interoperability Capability within our Organization. This is a pivotal role responsible for supporting and shaping our enterprise-wide capabilities, and delivering innovative, standard-driven interoperability solutions.
The ideal candidate must possess deep, verifiable Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in healthcare interoperability standards, a proven ability to think strategically yet act hands-on, and a high comfort level in translating abstract business challenges into concrete, scalable technical solutions. This role requires a high degree of self-drive, initiative, and exceptional cross-functional collaboration skills.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Vision Leadership
- Define and champion the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Interoperability COE, aligning capabilities with the Enterprise digital transformation goals.
- Function as the thought leader and chief architect, translating ambiguous business requirements and market trends into clear, strategic priorities and actionable execution plans.
- Monitor emerging industry standards (e.g., FHIR, API-driven architectures) and regulatory developments (e.g., US Cures Act, GDPR), ensuring the COE remains at the forefront of global interoperability.
Deep Subject Matter Expertise (SME)
- Provide deep definitive Subject Matter Expertise across core healthcare interoperability standards and terminologies FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources). HL7 (v2, v3, CDA), X12/EDI (Claims, Enrollment, Eligibility), and other standards/ resources
- Oversee the design, architecture, and implementation of secure, scalable, and compliant data exchange solutions for clinical, claims, and administrative data domains.
- Payer and Provider Solution Delivery
- Lead the development and delivery of end-to-end interoperability solutions specifically tailored for Healthcare Payers (e.g., claims data integration, member access) and Healthcare Providers (e.g., EHR integration, clinical data exchange).
- Drive proofs of concept (POCs), reference architectures, and solution accelerators to rapidly deploy standards-based solutions.
Collaboration & Capability Building
- Serve as the primary liaison, fostering strong collaborative relationships with product teams, engineering, operations, and external partners.
- Demonstrate strong self-drive and initiative, anticipating needs, proactively resolving roadblocks, and serving as the bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Mentor and develop a high-performing team of interoperability experts, establishing governance frameworks, KPIs, and best practices for capability delivery and adoption.
Qualifications & Experience
- 15+ years in healthcare technology, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role focused on data integration and interoperability.
- Payer/Provider Experience
- Proven, successful experience in implementing FHIR-, HL7-, and EDI-based solutions in both Payer and Provider environments.
- Technical SME
- Exceptional, verifiable deep SME in the specified standards (FHIR, HL7, EDI, SNOMED CT, LOINC).
- Leadership
- Proven record of thinking strategically (setting long-term direction) while maintaining the ability to act on the ground (personally driving critical-path deliverables).
- Mindset
- Demonstrated ability to thrive with abstract or incomplete information, rapidly structuring it to develop a clear, strategic path forward.
- Communication
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; able to articulate complex technical and strategic concepts to executive and highly technical audiences.
- Education
- Graduate or post-graduate degree in Computer Science, Health, or a related discipline.
Desired Attributes
- Experience setting up or scaling a COE or similar capability from the ground up.
- Relevant industry certification (e.g., Certified FHIR Professional).
- Familiarity with cloud-based interoperability platforms (e.g., Azure Health Data Services, AWS HealthLake, Google Cloud Healthcare API).
