Job Description

Job Purpose

To ensure safe, environmentally compliant and fire-safe operations at Salaya Port by monitoring Health, Safety, Environment and Fire (HSEF) practices, statutory compliances, emergency preparedness and safety awareness, with a focus on achieving Zero Fatality, Zero Permanent Disability and a strong fire safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor implementation of the OHS Plan and ensure achievement of safety objectives at Salaya Port.
  • Conduct regular field inspections and surveillance to ensure safe working conditions across the terminal.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, OHS standards and best practices by employees, contractors and vendors.
  • Identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, fire hazards and environmental non-compliances and ensure timely corrective action.
  • Support compliance with environmental and statutory approvals, including Environmental Clearance (EC), CTE, CTO, CRZ permissions and other applicable requirements.
  • Coordinate documentation and activities related to obtaining and maintaining environmental and safety approvals for existing operations and upcoming projects.
  • Monitor fire protection and firefighting systems, including fire hydrants and other fire safety equipment, to ensure 100% availability and operational readiness.
  • Conduct regular inspections of fire safety systems and coordinate their testing, maintenance and timely rectification of identified gaps.
  • Ensure preparedness for fire and other emergency situations through emergency response planning, mock drills and awareness programmes.
  • Conduct and coordinate safety and fire safety training, toolbox talks and awareness programmes for employees, contractors and vendors.
  • Support departments in maintaining compliance with IMS requirements and certification standards.
  • Maintain and review HSEF records, reports, inspection findings and statutory compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure effective implementation of HSE and Fire Safety requirements and smooth terminal operations.
  • Report major safety risks, fire hazards, environmental non-compliances and critical observations to the Head – HSEF and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen the overall Health, Safety, Environment and Fire culture at Salaya Port.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • A professional qualification in Industrial Safety / Occupational Health & Safety is preferred.
  • Additional certification in Fire & Safety / Fire Engineering / Environmental Management will be an advantage.
  • Qualification or training in NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO 45001, ISO 14001 or equivalent HSE certifications will be preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable Indian HSE, environmental and fire safety legislation is essential.

Required Experience

  • 8–12 years of relevant experience in HSE, preferably in ports, terminals, logistics, manufacturing, infrastructure, oil & gas, chemical or other high-risk industries.
  • Hands-on experience in safety inspections, audits, risk assessment, incident investigation and compliance monitoring.
  • Practical experience in fire prevention, firefighting systems, emergency preparedness and mock drills.
  • Experience in managing or coordinating environmental statutory compliances, including EC, CTE, CTO, CRZ and related approvals.
  • Experience in contractor/vendor safety management and conducting HSE training and awareness programmes.
  • Experience with IMS / ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 implementation and audits will be an advantage.
