Role SummaryThe Head of Technology will drive the technology vision, architecture, engineering excellence, and security across our EdTech product ecosystem. The ideal leader should have strong experience in EdTech platforms, scalable portal development, microservices-based architecture, KMS (Key Management Services), security frameworks, and Android application development. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on architectural expertise to build robust, secure, and learner-centric digital solutions.
Key Responsibilities1. Technology Leadership & Strategy- Define and implement the technology roadmap aligned with business and product strategy.
- Make architectural decisions that support scalability, resilience, modularity, and security.
- Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies relevant to EdTech and mobility.
2. EdTech Platform Development- Lead development of KMS, assessment engines, personalized learning portals, and mobile-first learning tools.
- Drive seamless integration with EdTech content providers, third-party APIs, and digital marketplaces.
- Ensure learner and educator experience is intuitive, accessible, and data-driven.
3. Microservices & Portal Architecture- Architect, design, and oversee development of microservices-based platforms using modern frameworks.
- Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and efficient API orchestration across services.
- Guide teams in containerization, orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes), and distributed system design.
- Lead multi-tenant portal design and ensure consistent, high-performance user experiences.
4. Android & Mobile Platform Leadership- Oversee development and optimization of Android applications for students, educators, and administrators.
- Ensure app performance, offline capabilities, and scalable mobile architecture.
- Collaborate with product and UX teams to build mobile-focused learning experiences.
5. Solution Architecture- Provide end-to-end solution architecture guidance for backend, frontend, mobile, data, and cloud systems.
- Implement API-first development, event-driven architecture, and cloud-native solutions.
- Ensure architectural decisions support long-term maintainability and cost efficiency.
6. Security, Compliance & KMS- Implement enterprise-grade security frameworks including IAM, SSO, encryption, and DevSecOps.
- Oversee KMS (Key Management Service) implementation for secure key handling, rotation, and encryption.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, COPPA, FERPA, ISO27001, SOC2 and relevant education data regulations.
- Drive periodic vulnerability assessments, threat modelling, and penetration testing.
7. Engineering Management- Lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams across backend, frontend, Android, DevOps, QA, and security.
- Enforce best engineering practices including CI/CD, code quality standards, and automated testing.
- Build a culture of innovation, reliability, experimentation, and accountability.
8. Cross-functional Collaboration- Partner with product, curriculum, operations, and business leadership to deliver scalable solutions.
- Communicate technology plans, architectural decisions, and delivery timelines to key stakeholders.
Required Skills & ExperienceTechnical Expertise- 1218+ years of overall technology experience; minimum 5+ years in leadership roles.
- Strong background in EdTech platform development and portal ecosystem design.
- Hands-on experience with microservices-based development and distributed architectures.
- Experience managing KMS, encryption frameworks, secure storage, and key lifecycle management.
- Strong expertise in Android application development and mobility architecture.
- Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), networking concepts, and serverless systems.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and secure coding practices.
- Experience with data engineering, analytics, and ML/AI in EdTech is a plus.
