About the Role:
We are looking for an accomplished and research-driven Head – Research in Artificial Intelligence to lead and strengthen our AI research ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have a strong Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) background, proven expertise in Artificial Intelligence, and an exceptional record of research publications, patents, funded projects, and academic/research leadership.
The candidate will be responsible for driving high-impact AI research, building research collaborations, mentoring researchers and faculty, and positioning the University as a strong centre for AI innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the University's AI research agenda and roadmap.
- Drive high-quality research in areas such as Generative AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, NLP, Computer Vision, AI/ML Systems, Responsible AI and emerging AI technologies.
- Build and lead multidisciplinary AI research teams and research groups.
- Mentor faculty, Ph.D. scholars and research teams to achieve high-quality research outcomes.
- Drive publications in high-impact SCI/SCIE/Scopus-indexed journals and reputed international conferences.
- Lead patent generation, intellectual property development and technology commercialization in AI.
- Identify and lead government, industry and international research projects and funded grants.
- Establish research collaborations with leading universities, research institutions, technology companies and industry partners.
- Develop AI research labs, centres of excellence and innovation initiatives.
- Encourage technology transfer, startups, prototypes and industry-oriented AI solutions.
- Represent the University at national and international research forums.
- Track emerging AI trends and translate them into strategic research initiatives.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Artificial Intelligence / Information Technology or closely related discipline.
- Strong academic/research background in Computer Science & Engineering, with substantial specialization in AI.
- Relevant experience in academia, research institutions, or industry R&D, preferably with demonstrated research leadership.
- Strong and consistent record of AI-focused research publications in reputed journals/conferences.
- Excellent patent credentials, preferably including granted patents and/or technology commercialization.
- Demonstrated experience in leading AI research projects/research teams.
- Strong record of securing or contributing to externally funded research projects/grants will be highly desirable.
Preferred Research Profile:
- Strong publication record in SCI/SCIE/Scopus-indexed journals and top-tier AI/CS conferences.
- Strong patent portfolio in AI/ML or related technologies.
- Experience supervising Ph.D. scholars.
- Demonstrated research collaborations with industry/international institutions.
- Experience in establishing or leading AI/ML research labs, Centres of Excellence or research groups.
- Strong research funding and consultancy track record.
Ideal Candidate:
1. The ideal candidate is a research leader—not merely a teaching faculty member—with a strong CSE foundation and deep expertise in AI, who has demonstrated the ability to convert research into high-impact publications, patents, funded projects, collaborations and innovative technologies.
2. Candidates with proven leadership of AI-focused research teams/centres and an exceptional publication record will be strongly preferred.
