Role Overview

The Head of Streaming & Broadcast Technology in Hyderabad will be responsible for leading the software and broadcast engineering delivery function that underpins DAZN's global streaming platform and broadcast operations. This is a senior engineering leadership role that spans two critical domains — modern software delivery and broadcast technology engineering — requiring a leader who can bridge both worlds effectively.

The successful candidate will bring proven experience in leading large engineering teams, driving agile ways of working, and building a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. They will be equally comfortable overseeing the delivery of software engineering workstreams and leading teams responsible for broadcast infrastructure, signal chain management, and live event technology.

This role is fundamentally about empowering great teams to deliver outstanding outcomes — consistently, sustainably, and at scale.

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering Leadership & Delivery

• Own the software and broadcast engineering delivery function for DAZN's streaming platform in Hyderabad
• Create the conditions for teams to deliver high-quality outcomes consistently and sustainably
• Define and embed engineering standards, practices, and ways of working across all teams
• Drive a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Remove blockers and ensure teams are empowered and focused on delivering value
• Ensure strong alignment between software delivery and broadcast engineering workstreams

2. Broadcast Technology & Engineering

• Lead the broadcast engineering function responsible for:
• Signal acquisition, processing, and distribution
• Live event technology and broadcast infrastructure
• Encoding, transcoding, and packaging workflows
• Playout systems and transmission path management
• Monitoring and quality assurance of broadcast signals
• Drive the evolution of broadcast infrastructure towards software-defined and cloud-based approaches
• Oversee the integration of broadcast systems with streaming and software platforms
• Ensure broadcast engineering teams are equipped with the right tools, processes, and skills
• Stay current with emerging broadcast technologies and drive adoption where appropriate including:
• IP-based broadcast workflows (SMPTE ST 2110)
• Cloud-based playout and contribution
• Remote production (REMI) models
• Software-defined networking for broadcast

3. Streaming Software Delivery

• Oversee the delivery of software engineering workstreams that power DAZN's streaming platform
• Ensure software teams are delivering features and improvements consistently and at pace
• Champion engineering best practices across all software delivery teams including:
• CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
• Code review standards and technical documentation
• Test-driven development (TDD) and quality-first mindset
• Partner with Architecture teams to ensure delivery to the right technical standards
• Drive continuous improvement through retrospectives and blameless post-mortems

4. Team Leadership & Development

• Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing organisation spanning:
• Engineering Managers
• Software Engineers
• Broadcast Engineers and Technologists
• QA Engineers
• Delivery Managers and Scrum Masters
• Drive recruitment and onboarding of top engineering and broadcast talent in Hyderabad
• Create clear career development pathways across both software and broadcast disciplines
• Build a psychologically safe, collaborative environment where people do their best work
• Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and develop future technical leaders
• Foster a culture that values both software engineering and broadcast technology equally

5. Agile Ways of Working

• Champion and embed agile delivery methodologies across all teams
• Drive adoption of best practices including:
• Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe frameworks as appropriate
• Sprint planning, retrospectives, and continuous improvement rituals
• Clear Definition of Done and quality gates throughout delivery
• Adapt agile practices thoughtfully for broadcast engineering contexts where appropriate
• Continuously refine ways of working to increase team velocity and output quality

6. Technology Strategy & Innovation

• Contribute to the long-term technology strategy for streaming and broadcast at DAZN
• Drive the convergence of broadcast and software engineering practices and tooling
• Identify and evaluate emerging technologies that can enhance DAZN's capabilities
• Champion the transition from traditional broadcast workflows to cloud-native and software-defined approaches
• Partner with Architecture and Product teams to shape the technical roadmap

7. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

• Serve as the primary engineering and broadcast technology leadership interface between Hyderabad and global DAZN teams
• Translate business priorities into clear team goals and delivery plans
• Provide regular, transparent visibility of team progress, risks, and health to senior leadership
• Build strong working relationships with global counterparts across:
• Product Management
• Technology and Architecture
• Broadcast Operations
• Content Acquisition and Rights
• Customer Experience

8. Resource & Capacity Management

• Own headcount planning and resource allocation across both engineering and broadcast functions
• Work with Finance and HR to manage budgets and team structures effectively
• Ensure the right mix of software and broadcast engineering skills are in place
• Forecast future capability needs as DAZN's platform and broadcast operations evolve
• Manage third-party technology partners and vendors where applicable

9. Performance & Continuous Improvement

• Define and track key engineering and broadcast performance metrics including:
• Use data and industry benchmarks to assess and continuously improve team performance
• Regularly share insights with senior leadership with clear actions and recommendations

10. Cross-functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Product and Technology leadership to align teams to business goals
• Partner with Architecture and Platform teams to manage technical dependencies
• Collaborate with Broadcast Operations to align engineering delivery with live event schedules
• Engage with Customer Experience teams to ensure customer-impacting issues are prioritized
• Work with Content and Rights teams to ensure technical capabilities support content strategy

Required Experience & Skills

Experience

• Minimum 10 years in software engineering, broadcast technology, or a combination of both
• At least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing large, multi-disciplinary engineering teams
• Proven track record of building and scaling high-performing engineering organizations
• Experience managing distributed or offshore teams within a global organization
• Background in OTT, media, streaming, or broadcast technology is essential

Broadcast Technology

• Strong understanding of broadcast engineering principles and live event workflows
• Familiarity with signal chain management, encoding, and transmission technologies
• Knowledge of the transition to IP-based and cloud-native broadcast workflows
• Understanding of broadcast standards including SMPTE, DVB, and HLS/MPEG-DASH
• Experience working with broadcast technology vendors and system integrators

Software Delivery & Engineering

• Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle (SDLC)
• Deep expertise in agile methodologies including Scrum, Kanban, and SAFe
• Hands-on experience implementing and scaling CI/CD practices
• Familiarity with software engineering best practices including TDD, automated testing, and code quality
• Experience with engineering tooling such as Jira, Confluence, or equivalent

Leadership & People Management

• Demonstrated ability to build, scale, and inspire multi-disciplinary engineering teams
• Strong coaching and mentoring skills with a track record of growing technical talent
• Experience managing Engineering Managers and senior technical leads across disciplines
• Ability to lead through ambiguity and maintain focus during periods of rapid change
• A people-first leadership style that prioritizes team health and sustainable performance
• Ability to build bridges between software and broadcast engineering cultures

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels
• Comfortable presenting team performance, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership
• Experience working with global stakeholders across multiple time zones
• Proven ability to influence and drive alignment across cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading the convergence of broadcast and software engineering functions
• Familiarity with cloud-based broadcast infrastructure on AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Knowledge of SMPTE ST 2110, NMOS, or IP broadcast standards
• Experience scaling an engineering hub or centre of excellence in India
• Understanding of DRM and content security in a streaming context
• Relevant certifications in SAFe, broadcast engineering, or equivalent frameworks
