InCommon is hiring on behalf of a series A fintech startup.
About the Role
We're hiring a Head of Engineering to own all aspects of technology at a fast-scaling cross-border payments company. This role spans architecture, execution, infra, security, hiring, and people leadership.
You'll work closely with the founders to translate business and product direction into scalable, compliant, high-quality systems, while building and leading a lean, high-ownership engineering team. Over time, this role is expected to grow into a CTO position.
This is not a purely hands-off leadership role. While day-to-day coding is not required, you should be capable of going deep when needed to ensure quality and sound decision-making.
What You'll Own
Technology & Architecture
- Own end-to-end system architecture across products, geographies, and regulators.
- Make long-term architectural decisions while balancing speed and reliability.
- Ensure high standards for financial correctness, data security, and compliance.
Engineering Execution
- Drive fast, high-quality delivery across teams.
- Anticipate risks, unblock teams, and ensure consistent execution.
Infrastructure, DevOps & Security
- Own cloud, infra, security, and audit readiness.
- Decide when to go hands-on vs hiring specialists and managing them well.
- Own vendor selection, audits, and compliance-driven tech decisions.
Hiring & Team Leadership
- Build and scale a high-bar engineering team.
- Personally own senior hiring and team structure.
- Manage multiple layers of hierarchy and mentor leaders.
Strategic Leadership
- Be an active voice in company-level strategy, not just execution.
- Push back, shape direction, and bring independent thinking to leadership discussions.
Evangelism (CTO Track)
- Clearly communicate engineering direction internally.
- Build external credibility for the company's tech through community, hiring, or events.
What We're Looking For
- Typically 815 years of experience (flexible for exceptional candidates).
- Has led or is ready to lead 1030 engineers.
- Strong system design and architectural thinking.
- Comfortable across backend, infra, and operational concerns.
- Strong business and product problem-solving ability, not just technical depth.
- High ownership, good judgment, and ability to figure things out from first principles.
- Clear communicator who can represent engineering internally and externally.
- Fintech or payments experience is a plus, not a requirement.
Growth & Environment
- Clear path to CTO over 2 years based on performance.
- Long-term equity upside aligned with company outcomes.
- Engineering team based in Bangalore (HSR Layout).
- Primarily in-office, high-collaboration culture.
