  • Location: Uttar Pradesh
  • Experience: 20+ years of experience in Ammonia / Fertilizer plants.

  • Salary Range: Rs.30 to 35 lpa

Job Summary -

  • The HoD / Section Head – Ammonia Plant will be responsible for overall plant operations, production efficiency, safety, reliability, maintenance coordination, technical performance, and profitability of the Ammonia manufacturing facility. The role requires strong leadership in managing large operational teams, ensuring safe and continuous plant operation, optimizing energy consumption, and achieving production targets in compliance with international HSE and quality standards.
  • The incumbent will lead Operations, Maintenance, Technical Services, Utilities, Reliability, and Production Planning functions to ensure world-class operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Plant Operations & Production

  • Lead end-to-end operations of the Ammonia plant ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient production.
  • Ensure achievement of daily, monthly, and annual production targets with optimum energy efficiency.
  • Ensure smooth start-up, shutdown, and turnaround activities.

Process Optimization & Energy Management

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance plant efficiency and reliability.
  • Drive energy conservation initiatives to achieve benchmark energy consumption.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as:
  • Ammonia production
  • Specific energy consumption
  • Plant load factor
  • On-stream factor
  • Natural gas consumption
  • Steam-to-carbon ratio
  • Lead debottlenecking and capacity enhancement projects.

Safety, Health & Environment (HSE)

  • Promote strong safety culture and ensure compliance with HSE policies, procedures, and statutory regulations.
  • Lead process safety management (PSM) initiatives and risk mitigation programs.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental norms, emission standards, and sustainability goals.
  • Participate in HAZOP, RCA, incident investigations, and safety audits.

Maintenance & Reliability

  • Coordinate closely with Maintenance and Reliability teams to maximize plant availability.
  • Support predictive, preventive, and condition-based maintenance strategies.
  • Monitor equipment reliability of compressors, reformers, turbines, boilers, reactors, and rotating equipment.
  • Ensure effective turnaround planning and execution.

Technical & Process Excellence

  • Provide strategic technical leadership for Ammonia process operations.
  • Review process parameters and implement optimization measures for yield improvement and energy reduction.
  • Support troubleshooting of process upsets and critical operational issues.
  • Drive digitalization, APC, DCS optimization, and operational excellence initiatives.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary operational teams.
  • Develop succession planning, competency development, and training programs.
  • Foster performance-driven and collaborative work culture.
  • Coordinate with corporate management, licensors, contractors, and external agencies.

Commercial & Strategic Responsibilities

  • Manage operational budgets and cost control measures.
  • Support long-term business planning and plant expansion projects.
  • Ensure inventory optimization and utility cost management.
  • Participate in strategic decision-making for operational improvements.

Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from a recognized Govt Institution with minimum 60% marks throughout educational career.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 8–10 years in senior leadership roles handling Ammonia process plants.
  • Strong experience in Ammonia technologies such as: Haldor Topsoe, KBR, Uhde, Casale, Saipem, Toyo Engineering etc.
  • Experience in large-capacity gas-based Ammonia plants preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of: Ammonia production process.
  • Steam reforming
  • Synthesis loop operations

  • Energy optimization.
  • Process safety management.
  • Knowledge of DCS/ESD/PLC systems.
  • Expertise in turnaround management and plant troubleshooting.
