Job Description

The responsibilities will include but not be limited to -

  • Define and execute the research agenda in alignment with the firm's investment strategy.
  • Build and maintain a structured research process covering bottom-up stock picking, industry analysis, and thematic studies.
  • Ensure high-quality, data-backed investment theses with clear valuation frameworks.
  • Lead, mentor, and scale a team of equity research analysts across sectors.
  • Create a culture of intellectual honesty, debate, and continuous improvement.
  • Design training programs to upskill analysts on modelling, valuation, and industry frameworks.
  • Drive differentiated insights through deep fundamental work: channel checks, management meetings, supply chain mapping, and field research.
  • Identify multi-year structural opportunities as well as near-term catalysts across India and US public equities.
  • Present high-conviction investment ideas to the Investment Committee.
  • Enhance research outputs using data analytics, alternative data, and technology tools.
  • Enforce best practices in financial modelling, scenario analysis, and documentation.
  • Build frameworks for sector scorecards, thematic watchlists, and ongoing coverage tracking.
  • Partner closely with the portfolio managers to refine portfolio construction and risk assessment.
  • Coordinate with compliance, operations, and risk teams to ensure adherence to internal and SEBI guidelines.
  • Represent the research function in client meetings, investor updates, and due diligence sessions (as required).

The Successful Applicant

A successful Head of Research should have:

  • 14-18+ years of experience in equity research or public markets investing, ideally with a mix of India and US-focused mandates.
  • Education - MBA, CA, CFA, or equivalent qualification preferred
  • Sector coverage - Must have covered Consumer, Financial Services, Technology and Healthcare.
  • Demonstrated track record of generating alpha or leading high-performing research teams.
  • Deep understanding of India and US capital markets, regulatory frameworks, and sector dynamics.
  • Experience in both large-cap and mid/small-cap coverage preferred
