About R&D:
The R&D organization at ANSR MedTech is being built to support the development, testing, and long-term sustainment of complex, regulated products used at global scale.
This team plays a critical role in engineering excellence, product quality, and operational reliability, working closely with global R&D leaders to deliver against well-defined technical standards, quality systems, and product outcomes.
Unlike a traditional offshore or support model, R&D in India is designed to take on meaningful ownership across the product lifecycle, particularly in areas where scale, focus, and execution discipline are essential.

How the R&D Team Operates:
- Teams are based in India and embedded in day-to-day delivery, not isolated support functions
- Technical direction, quality standards, and product outcomes are globally aligned, with strong local execution and accountability
- The organization is built under a Build–Operate–Transfer (BOT) model with ANSR, with responsibilities expanding as the site matures
- Success is measured by engineering quality, predictable delivery, adherence to quality systems, reduced defects over time, and strong collaboration with global R&D teams.
Position Summary:
The Head of R&D – Bengaluru will be responsible for establishing and leading Client's R&D presence in India. This role will set the strategic direction, build high performing engineering teams, ensure strong alignment with global R&D priorities, and deliver high impact hardware, software, and systems engineering contributions to Client's product portfolio.
The ideal candidate is a visionary engineering leader with deep medical device experience, exceptional people leadership skills, and a track record of scaling technical organizations in fast growing global companies.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Leadership & Strategy:
- Establish, grow, and lead Client's R&D center in Bengaluru as a world-class capability hub.
- Define long-term strategic direction for the site aligned with global product vision and technology roadmaps.
- Develop a strong engineering culture focused on innovation, quality, execution excellence, and patient safety.
Team Building & Talent Development:
- Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent across mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, systems, and test domains.
- Create a leadership pipeline by mentoring and developing local functional managers and technical leaders.
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusive leadership practices to build a high trust environment.
Program & Portfolio Execution:
- Lead execution of R&D programs from concept through verification/validation in collaboration with global teams.
- Ensure timely, high-quality delivery of engineering artifacts, prototypes, design reviews, and documentation.
- Drive adherence to design controls, quality systems, and regulatory expectations (FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, ISO 14971, etc.).
Cross Functional & Global Collaboration:
- Partner closely with global R&D, Quality, Operations, Clinical, and Regulatory teams.
- Serve as the primary interface between Bengaluru R&D and global leadership.
- Facilitate strong communication, alignment, and integration of global development processes.
Operational Excellence:
- Establish site governance, KPIs, metrics, and operating mechanisms for predictable delivery.
- Manage budget, resource planning, vendor relationships, and campus operations.
- Drive continuous improvement, Lean product development practices, and engineering best practices.
Innovation & Thought Leadership:
- Foster a culture of design thinking, rapid prototyping, and technology exploration.
- Identify emerging technology opportunities in AI/ML, embedded systems, electronics miniaturization, IoT/cloud, and wearable medical device design.
- Represent the site in global innovation forums and strategic planning.
Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum Requirements:
- 15+ years of progressive engineering leadership experience in medical devices, healthcare technology, or regulated hardware/software products.
- 8+ years in senior leadership roles managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Proven experience scaling and operating a high growth R&D center or large engineering organization in India.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering, product development lifecycle, and design controls in a regulated environment.
- Experience working with global stakeholders across US/EU/Asia.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering; Advanced Degree or MBA is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in diabetes, drug delivery, wearable medical devices, or connected health products.
- Expertise in both hardware and software engineering domains.
- Track record of building organizations >100 engineers is a plus.
