Job Description

Job Title: Head Product Development (Software, AI/ML & Cloud Platforms)

Location: Bengaluru

Reports to: CTO

Position Overview

The Head of Product Development will lead the evolution of iPUMPNET, our flagship IoT platform designed to revolutionize water infrastructure management. The role will be responsible for the end-to-end engineering of a system that ingests high-frequency data from thousands of pumping stations, performs real-time edge and cloud analytics, and delivers actionable insights through intuitive dashboards. This role sits at the intersection of Industrial IoT (IIoT) and Predictive Analytics, requiring a leader who can bridge the gap between physical hardware (Sensors, Motors) and sophisticated AI-driven software.

Key Responsibilities

1. IIoT Platform Evolution & Strategy

  • Lead the technical roadmap for iPUMPNET, ensuring it scales to handle massive concurrent data streams from distributed pump assets.
  • Translate complex hydraulic and electrical parameters (Flow, Pressure, Temperature, Power Factor) into digital features that drive value for municipal and industrial clients.
  • Drive the shift from reactive monitoring to proactive asset management.

2. Product Development Leadership

  • Lead and manage the software engineering and AI/ML development teams to deliver high-quality technology products.
  • Define and execute the product technology roadmap aligned with company strategy.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
  • Mentor and guide engineers across software development, system architecture, and machine learning disciplines.

3. Scalable Software Architecture & Engineering

  • Oversee the complete software development lifecycle including system design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance architectures.
  • Establish and maintain best practices for coding standards, architecture, documentation, and quality assurance.
  • Build and maintain systems using modern backend and frontend frameworks.
  • Ensure integration between data systems, APIs, microservices, and AI/ML modules.
  • Oversee a robust Microservices architecture capable of 24/7 uptime, ensuring that critical alerts (Level/Pressure/Flow) are delivered with sub-second latency.
  • Optimize the data pipeline for Time-Series datamanaging the storage and retrieval of historical performance data for long-term trend analysis.
  • Build and manage secure, multi-tenant cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) that protect sensitive infrastructure data.

4. AI / ML Development & Deployment

  • Lead development and deployment of AI/ML models for predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and intelligent automation.
  • Guide the team in data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, and production deployment.
  • Monitor and optimize machine learning model performance in real-world environments.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate AI-driven insights into product features.
  • Stay updated with advancements in machine learning, deep learning, and data science technologies.
  • Predictive Maintenance: Architect models to predict pump failures or Dry Run scenarios before they occur by analyzing vibration, temperature, and electrical load patterns.
  • Energy Optimization: Develop algorithms that analyze Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and Power Factor to optimize energy consumption and reduce operational costs.
  • Anomaly Detection: Implement real-time detection for pipe bursts (pressure drops) or valve leakages (flow inconsistencies).

5. Hardware-Software Integration

  • Collaborate with embedded systems teams to ensure seamless data flow via MQTT/HTTP protocols from the field to the cloud.
  • Ensure the platform supports remote control capabilities (On/Off, Motor Speed control) with high security and fail-safe mechanisms.

6. Technology Strategy & Innovation

  • Drive adoption of modern technologies across the stack including:
  • Databases: MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB
  • Backend: .NET, Python, Java, Node.js
  • Frontend: React, Angular, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript
  • AI/ML: TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, scikit-learn
  • Cloud Platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud
  • Implement microservices architecture and API-driven platforms.
  • Lead DevOps initiatives including CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and automation.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies to enhance product capabilities and performance.

7. Project Delivery & Product Execution

  • Manage multiple product development initiatives and ensure timely delivery within defined quality standards.
  • Implement agile development methodologies and effective engineering processes.
  • Coordinate with product managers, design teams, and business stakeholders to deliver feature-rich products.
  • Ensure systems meet performance, reliability, and security standards.

8. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the technical bridge between engineering teams and business stakeholders.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear business insights.
  • Support internal teams with AI-driven analytics and automation solutions.
  • Present technical architecture, product roadmaps, and AI insights to leadership.

Technology Stack Exposure

Software & Platforms

  • Backend: .NET, Python (with FastAPI/Flask), Java, Node.js
  • Frontend: React, Angular (Focus on real-time telemetry visualization and GIS mapping), JavaScript frameworks

Databases

  • MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Time-Series DBs (e.g., InfluxDB/ TimescaleDB) for sensor logs.

AI / ML

  • TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, Scikit-learn (Experience with Time-series forecasting is critical).
  • Statistical modeling, predictive analytics, anomaly detection

Cloud & DevOps

  • AWS / Azure / GCP
  • Docker, Kubernetes
  • CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, Terraform

Architecture

  • Microservices
  • RESTful APIs / GraphQL
  • Event-driven systems (MQTT / messaging frameworks)

IoT Protocols

  • MQTT, CoAP, Modbus TCP/IP, Rest APIs.

Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field.

Experience

  • 1215 years of experience in software development and system architecture.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams.
  • Hands-on experience delivering scalable software platforms and AI/ML solutions in production with high-scale data ingestion and real-time analytics.
  • Proven experience in cloud-based architectures and modern development frameworks.
  • Proven track record in building IoT/IIoT platforms, Energy Management Systems (EMS), or Industrial Automation software.
  • Product Mindset: Ability to look at a Pump Station and see a data-rich environment that can be optimized through code.
