HEAD OF PLATFORM ENGINEERING
We are seeking a Senior Director of Platform Engineering to lead and evolve the platform organization responsible for cloud foundations, shared services, developer platforms, and enterprise-grade capabilities as our SaaS offering matures into a robust PaaS.
In this role, you will own the platform strategy, operating model, and execution across multiple teams, ensuring the platform enables rapid product innovation while meeting the highest standards for security, reliability, scalability, compliance, and cost efficiency. You will lead senior engineering managers and technical leaders, set clear priorities and delivery timelines, and partner closely WITH_REPLACED Product, Security, Data, and Solutions leadership to align platform investments WITH_REPLACED company strategy.
This is a senior leadership role that blends technical depth, organizational leadership, and strategic thinking. While not a hands-on coding position, it requires strong architectural judgment and credibility to guide technical direction and influence outcomes across the organization.
Responsibilities:
Platform Strategy & Cloud Architecture Leadership
- Own and evolve the long-term platform and cloud strategy, WITH_REPLACED AWS as the primary environment and a pragmatic view of multi-cloud needs.
- Set architectural guardrails and standards that enable secure, scalable, resilient, and event-driven systems across product teams.
- Guide the platform's evolution to support enterprise integrations, including APIs, webhooks, connectors, data pipelines, batch ingestion, and asynchronous processing.
- Partner WITH_REPLACED Product and Engineering leadership to ensure platform investments directly support business priorities and customer outcomes.
- Drive the transition from bespoke customer solutions to repeatable, productized platform capabilities.
Engineering Management & Delivery Excellence
- Lead multiple platform teams through senior managers, establishing clear ownership, delivery plans, milestones, and success metrics.
- Build and scale a high-performing platform organization WITH_REPLACED strong technical leadership, healthy team culture, and sustainable execution.
- Ensure large, cross-team initiatives are delivered on time, WITH_REPLACED high quality, and WITH_REPLACED clear communication of progress, risks, and trade-offs.
- Balance short-term delivery needs WITH_REPLACED long-term platform health and technical sustainability.
- Own resourcing, capacity planning, and prioritization for the platform organization.
Developer Experience & Operational Enablement
- Set direction for developer experience, DevOps, and internal platform tooling that accelerates product teams while reducing operational friction.
- Ensure best practices for infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, reliability engineering, and cloud cost management are consistently applied.
- Embed operational excellence into platform design, including availability targets, incident management, and performance monitoring.
- Champion platform usability and adoption across engineering teams.
Security, Compliance & Risk Leadership
- Act as an executive partner to Security and Compliance leadership in building scalable, audit-ready foundations.
- Ensure security, privacy, and compliance requirements are designed into the platform by default, not bolted on.
- Oversee platform alignment WITH_REPLACED SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, and GxP requirements.
- Drive consistent implementation of security architectures, policies, and controls across teams.
Cross-Functional & Customer Enablement
- Partner WITH_REPLACED Solutions Engineering to support complex enterprise deployments and strategic customer engagements.
- Provide leadership oversight for platform decisions that impact customer architecture, scalability, and long-term success.
- Represent Platform Engineering in senior customer, partner, and internal executive discussions.
Leadership, Influence & Organizational Impact
- Serve as a senior leader within Engineering, influencing company-wide technical direction and execution standards.
- Coach and mentor Directors, Senior Managers, and Staff+ engineers, building a strong leadership pipeline.
- Collaborate WITH_REPLACED peers in Product, Data, Security, and TPM to align roadmaps, execution, and operating models.
- Translate ambiguous business goals into clear platform strategies and execution plans.
Requirements:
Required
- 15+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure roles.
- Proven experience leading large, multi-team engineering organizations through senior managers.
- Strong architectural understanding of cloud-native, distributed, and event-driven systems, WITH_REPLACED deep AWS experience.
- Demonstrated success building and scaling platform, infrastructure, or developer enablement teams.
- Experience operating in SaaS or PaaS environments WITH_REPLACED enterprise customers.
- Strong background in security, reliability, and compliance-aware system design.
- Excellent communication, executive presence, and cross-functional influence.
Preferred
- Exposure to multi-cloud environments (Azure, GCP).
- Experience supporting regulated industries or GxP-aligned platforms.
- Background partnering closely WITH_REPLACED Product to shape platform roadmaps.
- Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams.
