Job Description

We are looking for a strong Internal Auditor profession to join us as the Head of Internal Audit. You will lead the independent assurance function for a fast-growing digital bank, giving the Board and Audit Committee confidence that our controls, risk management, and governance keep pace with a rapidly scaling, technology-first business. This is a rare opportunity to lead an internal audit function from the ground up — influencing the methodology, tooling, and team that will support the Bank through its next phase of growth, while working closely with regulators, technology, and business leaders.

Key Responsibilities

Function Leadership & Governance

  • Own the overall internal audit function of the Bank; develop, implement and continuously refine the Internal Audit Methodology, Audit Charter and Audit Manual in line with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards and local regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular assessments of the internal audit function's effectiveness (methodology, systems, tooling and staffing) and drive continuous improvement, including exploring data analytics and automation to increase audit coverage and efficiency.

Risk-Based Audit & Assurance

  • Evaluate the reliability, adequacy and effectiveness of the Bank's internal controls and risk management processes, and assess whether business and risk management units are operating within the Board-approved risk appetite framework.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends, emerging risks (including fintech, cyber, AI/ML and third-party/vendor risk) and industry best practices, and incorporate this knowledge into the audit approach.
  • Review internal controls to ensure prompt, accurate recording of transactions and proper safeguarding of assets.
  • Assess the Bank's compliance with applicable laws and regulations and adherence to internal policies, and evaluate whether senior management is taking appropriate and timely action to remediate control deficiencies.
  • Provide independent assurance on the design and operation of controls supporting technology, cybersecurity, and data governance, given the Bank's digital-first operating model.

Reporting & Stakeholder Management

  • Provide the Audit Committee with an overall annual opinion on the effectiveness of internal controls relating to the Bank's risk governance framework.
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for regulators on audit-related matters, including hosting and responding to regulatory inspections and examinations.
  • Build credibility and trusted working relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders, including the Board, Audit Committee, senior management, business units, and regulators.
  • Report to the Audit Committee, at minimum

a) the annual (or other periodic) risk-based audit plan, detailing proposed areas of audit focus and resourcing;

b) any factors adversely affecting the internal audit function's independence, objectivity or effectiveness; and

c) material findings from audits and reviews, together with management's remediation status.

Whistleblowing & Ethics

  • Own the monitoring, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Bank's whistleblowing channel/program and associated Whistleblowing Policy, ensuring cases are handled confidentially, independently and in accordance with policy.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree holder with at least 12 years of relevant experience in bank internal audit and risk assessment functions, including a minimum of 3 years leading an internal audit and/or risk assessment function.
  • Solid understanding of local banking regulations and hands-on experience managing regulatory audits, inspections and examinations.
  • Strong working knowledge of the COSO framework, enterprise risk management and accounting principles; CPA, CIA and/or CISA certification preferred.
  • Prior experience in a digital bank, fintech, or technology-driven financial services environment is a strong plus.

Skills & Attributes

  • Proven ability to manage a diverse group of stakeholders and build trust and credibility over time, including with the Board, regulators and senior management.
  • Comfortable operating in a lean, fast-paced start-up environment — pragmatic, hands-on, and able to prioritise across competing demands.
  • Strong team player, highly responsive to internal and external requests.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills, with strong organisational discipline.
  • Sound, independent judgement and the confidence to raise and escalate issues objectively.
