About the Role
The HR Head is responsible for leading the delivery of comprehensive human resources services across the University campus. The role provides both strategic and operational leadership in HR, ensuring effective recruitment, workforce planning, employee relations, performance management, staff development, and HR compliance.
Responsibilities
Strategic HR Leadership
- Support the development and implementation of HR strategies aligned with University objectives.
- Lead workforce planning initiatives including staffing forecasts, talent pipelines, and workforce capability development.
- Provide workforce analytics and HR insights to senior leadership to support strategic decision-making.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
- Manage end-to-end recruitment for academic and professional roles, ensuring high-quality hiring outcomes.
- Enhance recruitment processes, employer branding, and candidate experience.
- Advise hiring managers on job design, selection processes, and employment compliance requirements.
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Provide expert advice on workplace relations and employment legislation.
- Manage employee relations matters including grievances, disciplinary processes, and investigations.
- Ensure compliance with University HR policies, regulatory requirements, and employment frameworks.
- Maintain accurate HR records and support internal and external audits.
Performance Management & Staff Development
- Oversee the performance management framework including planning, coaching, and review cycles.
- Support leadership development initiatives and staff capability building programs.
- Identify workforce capability gaps and collaborate with Learning & Development teams to address organisational needs.
HR Operations & Systems
- Oversee HR operational processes including contracts, onboarding, probation, and separation procedures.
- Support HRIS administration and continuous optimisation of HR systems.
- Ensure HR data accuracy, reporting quality, and efficient workflow processes.
Organisational Development & Culture
- Support organisational change initiatives including restructures and workforce transformation projects.
- Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and wellbeing initiatives across the campus.
- Contribute to building a positive workplace culture aligned with University values.
Stakeholder Management
- Partner with academic and professional leaders to provide proactive HR guidance.
- Build constructive relationships with staff committees, unions, and advisory groups where applicable.
- Provide regular updates to leadership on workforce risks, opportunities, and emerging HR issues.
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop HR advisors, coordinators, and administrative staff.
- Promote collaboration, service excellence, and continuous improvement within the HR function.
- Manage workload allocation, staff development, and team capability growth.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Management, or related discipline.
- Minimum 10+ years of HR experience, including 23 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Experience working in a university, higher education, or public-sector environment.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, recruitment, workforce planning, and HR operations.
- Strong knowledge of employment legislation, workplace relations, and HR compliance frameworks.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities.
- Ability to analyse workforce data and provide actionable insights.
Preferred Skills
- Postgraduate qualification in Human Resources, Employment Relations, or Organisational Psychology.
- Experience interpreting enterprise agreements or industrial relations frameworks.
