Head of Engineering – Platforms

Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Noida and Chennai

Purpose of the Role

  • The Head of Engineering – Platforms is a pivotal leadership role within the Technology Product Engineering Function, focused on driving the strategic direction, planning, execution, and delivery of high-quality software products
  • With a focus on Innovating, building and developing engineering automation and AI Tools in order to support a highly diverse and fast-moving product engineering organization. The role requires a dynamic leader who can inspire teams, foster a DevOps culture, and deliver high-quality, scalable, and secure software solutions.

Key interactions

• Reporting to VP Engineering.

• Collaborate with the Engineering Leadership Team.

• Work closely with Product Managers, Delivery Leads, Architects, and other key business and technology stakeholders.

Key Areas of Responsibility/Accountability

Leadership and Strategy:

o Provide strategic leadership and vision for the engineering function.

o Collaborate across the company to align software development goals with overall business objectives and ensure these the teams are aware of these.

o Develop and implement software development policies, procedures, and standards.

o Work closely with the Engineering Leadership team to continue to develop and implement with Engineering Operating Model and ensuring its alignment with key strategic goals and objectives.

Team Management:

o Lead, mentor, and inspire multiple teams of engineers, architects, and other technical professionals.

o Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.

o Facilitate professional development and growth opportunities for team members.

Project Management, working closely with the Delivery Leadership Team:

o Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from concept to delivery.

o Working with Delivery Leads and Product Managers to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards.

o Manage project budgets, resource allocation, and risk mitigation in collaboration with the Delivery team.

Technical Oversight:

o Define and enforce coding standards, development methodologies, and best practices.

o Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, making recommendations for adoption.

o Ensure the security, scalability, and maintainability of software systems.

Collaboration and Communication:

Collaborate with Delivery Leads, Architects, Product Managers, UX/UI designers, and other stakeholders to ensure a seamless integration of software solutions.

o Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

o Provide regular updates on project status and performance metrics.

Quality Assurance:

o Working closely with the Head of Quality Assurance to ensure robust testing processes delivering quality software.

o Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for softwaredevelopment.

Budget and Resource Management:

o Develop and manage the engineering budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.

o Manage 3rd party suppliers using the Informa supplier management framework and tools to ensure compliance with our internal standards.

o Identify and proactively mitigate risks related to software development projects and technical operations.

o Improve overall software development efficiency through process optimization and the adoption of best practices.

o Contribute to the organization's growth by delivering software solutions that meet customer needs and drive market expansion.

Technical Leadership:

o Elevate the technical capabilities of the organization, positioning it as a leader in the industry.

• Delivery Timeliness: Percentage of projects delivered on time, demonstrating effective

planning and execution.

• Quality of Deliverables: Low defect density and minimal post-release issues, ensuring high-quality software products.

• Team Performance: High team productivity and colleague engagement, reflecting a positive and collaborative team environment.

• Innovation and Technology Adoption: Adoption of new technologies and innovative solutions that drive competitive advantage.

Budget Adherence:

Efficient management of financial resources, ensuring projects are delivered within budget.

• Stakeholder Satisfaction: Positive feedback from internal and external stakeholders, reflecting alignment with business needs.

• Technical Debt Reduction: Measurable reduction in technical debt, improving system scalability and maintainability.
