Job Title: Engineering Head – Electrical & Power Systems
Location: Mohali
Experience: 18–20 years (with extensive experience in EHV/MV/LV power systems and substations)
Qualification: B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from a reputed institute (M.Tech preferred)
Role Summary
The Engineering Head – Electrical & Power Systems will be responsible for leading end-to-end
electrical engineering activities for EHV/MV/LV substations and power system projects. The role
involves strategic oversight of primary and secondary engineering, system studies, tendering,
technical bid evaluations, and multidisciplinary coordination. The incumbent will provide
technical leadership, ensure compliance with national and international standards, and mentor
engineering teams while driving quality, safety, and cost optimization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering Leadership & Governance
• Lead and manage complete electrical engineering functions across projects, including
primary, secondary, and detailed engineering.
• Define engineering strategies, standards, and best practices for power system and
substation projects.
• Provide technical direction, approvals, and design governance across all project
phases.
• Mentor and develop engineering teams, ensuring skill enhancement and technical
excellence.
2. Electrical Diagrams & System Engineering
• Oversee preparation and review of overall Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) and protection
schemes for EHV/MV/LV systems.
• Ensure development and validation of schematic diagrams, control logics, I/O lists,
schedules, and interlocking philosophies.
• Review and approve system control, protection, and automation schemes.
3. Substation & Power System Expertise
• Provide expert guidance on AIS/GIS substation engineering up to 220kV.
• Oversee conductor sizing, sag-tension analysis, and short circuit force calculations.
• Approve protection philosophies and ensure system reliability and selectivity.
• Review design and analysis of conductors, insulators, bus systems, and associated
equipment.
4. System Studies & Simulations
• Lead load flow, short circuit, motor starting, and stability studies using ETAP and manual
methods.
• Review study assumptions, results, and mitigation measures to ensure system
adequacy and compliance.
• Interface with utilities and consultants for system approval and grid connectivity
studies.
5. Detailed Engineering Oversight
• Oversee preparation and review of:
o Cable schedules and routing philosophies
o Illumination system designs
o Earthing and earth mat designs
o Lightning protection system designs and BOQs
• Ensure compliance with applicable IS/IEC/IEEE standards and project specifications.
6. Layouts & Drawings Review
• Review and approve substation GA drawings, equipment layouts, erection key diagrams,
raceways, grounding, lighting, and cable trench layouts.
• Ensure constructability, safety, and optimization in all engineering deliverables.
7. Equipment Engineering & Sizing
• Provide technical approval for sizing and selection of:
o Power transformers, CTs, PTs
o Circuit breakers, isolators, lightning arresters
o HT/LT switchboards, MCCs
o DC systems, UPS, batteries, chargers, and auxiliary systems
• Ensure alignment with project requirements, standards, and lifecycle reliability.
8. Tendering & Technical Bid Evaluation
• Lead preparation of tender specifications, design basis reports (DBR), data sheets, and
material requisites (MRs).
• Head technical bid evaluation (TBE) activities, including bid comparisons and technical
clarifications.
• Recommend optimal technical solutions balancing performance, reliability, cost, and
compliance.
9. Secondary Systems & Automation
• Provide leadership in secondary engineering including:
o Control and relay panel (CRP) design and vetting
o Protection relay schemes and philosophies
o SCADA, RTU, SAS, PLCC, and FOTE systems
• Ensure seamless integration between primary and secondary systems.
10. Stakeholder & Project Interface
• Act as the technical authority in interactions with clients, utilities, EPC partners, OEMs,
and consultants.
• Support project management teams in resolving technical risks, deviations, and change
management.
• Ensure timely delivery of engineering milestones aligned with project schedules.
