Location: AIMS Institutes, Peenya, Bengaluru

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reporting To: Principal

Experience Required: 10–15 Years of Academic and Administrative Experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role within a higher education institution.

Position Summary

The Head of Department (HOD) – School of Information Technology will provide academic, administrative, and strategic leadership to the department. The role involves overseeing curriculum delivery, faculty development, student success, research initiatives, industry collaborations, accreditation requirements, and overall departmental performance. The HOD will ensure that the department achieves excellence in teaching, learning, research, placements, and stakeholder satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of academic programs within the School of IT.
  • Ensure effective curriculum delivery in accordance with university, autonomous, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor academic quality, teaching effectiveness, and learning outcomes.
  • Promote innovative teaching methodologies, project-based learning, and technology-enabled education.
  • Guide the development and revision of curriculum to align with industry requirements and emerging technologies.

Department Administration

  • Manage day-to-day departmental operations and academic administration.
  • Prepare academic plans, workload allocation, timetables, and departmental schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, university regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Maintain departmental records, reports, and documentation.

Faculty Management

  • Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and develop faculty members.
  • Conduct faculty performance reviews and identify professional development needs.
  • Encourage faculty participation in research, publications, FDPs, conferences, and certifications.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and academic excellence.

Student Development & Engagement

  • Monitor student academic performance, attendance, and progression.
  • Mentor students and address academic concerns.
  • Encourage participation in technical competitions, hackathons, innovation projects, and professional certifications.
  • Promote holistic development through extracurricular and co-curricular activities.

Research & Innovation

  • Encourage faculty and students to undertake research projects and publish in reputed journals.
  • Promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Facilitate funded research projects and consultancy assignments.
  • Support intellectual property development, patents, and industry-sponsored initiatives.

Industry Collaboration & Placements

  • Establish and strengthen relationships with IT companies, industry bodies, and professional associations.
  • Facilitate internships, industrial visits, guest lectures, workshops, and placement opportunities.
  • Ensure students are industry-ready through skill enhancement programs and certifications.
  • Collaborate with the Training & Placement Cell to improve placement outcomes.

Accreditation & Quality Assurance

  • Lead departmental initiatives related to NAAC, NBA, NIRF, IQAC, and other accreditation frameworks.
  • Ensure documentation and evidence management for audits and accreditation processes.
  • Implement quality enhancement measures and continuous improvement practices.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets.
  • Optimize utilization of laboratories, classrooms, software resources, and infrastructure.
  • Recommend upgrades to academic and technical resources based on industry trends.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Student academic performance and progression rates.
  • Placement and internship outcomes.
  • Faculty research publications and funded projects.
  • Accreditation and quality assurance achievements.
  • Student satisfaction and stakeholder feedback.
  • Industry collaborations and partnerships.
  • Faculty development and retention.
  • Achievement of departmental strategic objectives.

Qualifications

Educational Qualification

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Applications, or a related field (Preferred).
  • Master's Degree (M.Tech/MCA/M.Sc. IT/Computer Science or equivalent) with an excellent academic record.
  • NET/SET qualification will be an added advantage where applicable.

Experience

  • Minimum 10–15 years of teaching, research, and academic administration experience in higher education.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience as HOD, Program Coordinator, Academic Head, or equivalent leadership role.
  • Experience in autonomous institutions and accreditation processes will be highly preferred.
