Position: Head of Department (HOD) – Psychology

Department: Psychology

Location: Pune, Maharashtra

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and accomplished academic professional to lead the Department of Psychology. The ideal candidate will provide academic and administrative leadership, foster excellence in teaching and research, mentor faculty and students, and contribute to the strategic growth and development of the department in alignment with the university's vision and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership

  • Lead and manage all academic, research, and administrative activities of the Psychology Department.
  • Develop and implement academic strategies to enhance the quality of education and student outcomes.
  • Ensure the effective delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs, as applicable.

Curriculum Development

  • Design, review, and update curriculum in line with UGC, NEP, and university guidelines.
  • Introduce contemporary and interdisciplinary topics in Psychology, including Clinical, Counseling, Organizational, Educational, and Applied Psychology.
  • Promote innovative teaching methodologies and outcome-based education.

Faculty Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty members.
  • Encourage faculty participation in research, publications, conferences, and professional development programs.
  • Foster a collaborative and research-oriented academic culture.

Student Development

  • Monitor student academic performance and well-being.
  • Guide students in research projects, internships, fieldwork, and career planning.
  • Organize seminars, workshops, counseling awareness programs, and outreach activities.

Research & Publications

  • Promote high-quality research and scholarly activities within the department.
  • Encourage publication of research papers in reputed journals and participation in funded research projects.
  • Establish research collaborations with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, NGOs, and industry partners.

Industry & Community Engagement

  • Develop partnerships with hospitals, counseling centers, educational institutions, corporate organizations, and NGOs.
  • Facilitate internships, field visits, training programs, and placement opportunities for students.
  • Encourage community-based initiatives and psychological awareness programs.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Manage departmental planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Prepare reports and documentation required for NAAC, accreditation, audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in university committees and contribute to institutional development initiatives.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Ph.D. in Psychology from a recognized university.
  • Master's Degree in Psychology with a consistently strong academic record.
  • Specialization in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Organizational Psychology, Educational Psychology, or a related field will be preferred.

Experience

For Professor Level:

  • Minimum 15 years of teaching/research experience in higher education, with significant academic and administrative leadership experience.

For Associate Professor Level:

  • Minimum 8 years of teaching/research experience in higher education, along with experience in academic administration and curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated record of research publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in accreditation processes, academic planning, and institutional development will be an added advantage.
