Position Overview
The Head - Network & Design will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and governing Blue Dart's first, middle, and last mile networks. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that our operations are efficient, scalable, and future-ready. The role leads national-level optimization initiatives, automation deployment at hubs/gateways, and continuous improvement of infrastructure design. It will provide leadership to a specialist team and partner with regional operations to embed network improvements into daily execution.
Job Purpose
To build and deliver a strategic network roadmap for Blue Dart that enhances service quality, drives cost efficiency, and prepares infrastructure for business expansion. This includes:
- Optimizing hub and branch footprints.
- Deploying automation at facilities.
- Using advanced analytics and simulation to design scalable, customer-centric networks.
- Reducing dependency on external consultants by building strong in-house expertise.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Network Design & Optimization
- Lead end-to-end design of first, middle, and last mile networks using data-driven methods.
- Evaluate number, size, and location of operating units for efficiency.
- Use scenario modeling to test expansion or consolidation strategies.
Automation Deployment
- Drive automation at hubs, gateways, and service centers (sorters, robotics, AI-based routing).
- Build business cases for new technologies, ensuring ROI delivery.
- Collaborate with IT and Engineering for system integration and process redesign.
Continuous Improvement
- Create frameworks for continuous network re-evaluation.
- Benchmark against best-in-class competitors in logistics and e-commerce.
- Build dashboards to monitor cost per shipment, SLA compliance, and throughput.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with Regional Operations Heads for localized execution.
- Collaborate with Finance for cost-benefit analysis of proposed changes.
- Support Commercial teams in assessing customer requirements for network expansion.
Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead and mentor Senior Managers in network analysis and optimization.
- Build internal expertise in analytics and optimization tools.
- Create a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Graduate in Engineering, Supply Chain, or related discipline.
- Postgraduate in Operations, Logistics, or Business preferred.
Experience:
- 12-15 years of experience in network optimization, operations planning, or supply chain engineering.
- Proven success in large-scale hub and route redesign.
- Experience implementing automation and delivering measurable service and cost benefits.
- Strong exposure to logistics or e-commerce industry practices.
Skills & Capabilities
Technical Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of hub & spoke design, network simulation, and routing optimization.
- Familiarity with automation technologies in warehousing and linehaul.
- Proficiency in analytics tools, optimizers, and simulation software.
