About This Role

We're looking for a Head of Legal to lead and scale our legal function as the business grows across markets. This role exists to ensure our global compliance posture, contracts, disputes, and regulatory obligations are managed with depth, foresight, and commercial judgment.

You'll own the legal function end-to-end — from global compliance and registrations to court litigation and arbitration — while reviewing and uplifting the existing legal team. You'll be a trusted advisor to the CEO, CXOs, and the Board, balancing legal rigour with practical business needs in a fast-moving fintech environment.

What You'll Do

Global Compliance & Regulatory

  • Own the company's global compliance framework across all operating jurisdictions
  • Lead compliance registrations, renewals, and filings across geographies
  • Stay ahead of evolving fintech, data, payments, and consumer-protection regulations and translate them into operational playbooks
  • Build and maintain the compliance calendar, controls, and audit-readiness across entities
  • Advise leadership on entry into new markets, including legal structuring and licensing

Litigation, Arbitration & Dispute Resolution

  • Handle court litigations and arbitrations across India and international jurisdictions
  • Lead strategy on commercial disputes, regulatory matters, and high-stakes proceedings
  • Manage and direct external counsel across geographies; control outcomes, timelines, and costs
  • Maintain executive-level oversight of all active disputes and pre-litigation risks

Legal Team Leadership

  • Review, structure, and uplift the existing legal team — roles, ownership, and capability
  • Mentor in-house lawyers and set quality standards for drafting, review, and execution
  • Define legal team OKRs, workflows, and SLAs aligned with business priorities
  • Build a high-performance, business-aligned legal function fit for global scale

HR Legal & Workplace Matters

  • Advise on HR-related legal matters globally — employment disputes, terminations, investigations, and grievances
  • Partner with People and HR leaders on policies, employment contracts, and cross-border employment compliance
  • Handle sensitive client- and employee-related issues with discretion and legal soundness
  • Oversee POSH, whistleblower, and workplace conduct frameworks across jurisdictions

Tax & Local Regulatory

  • Provide legal oversight on local taxation matters, including direct and indirect tax positions
  • Partner with Finance on tax notices, assessments, GST matters, and litigation
  • Advise on cross-border tax-legal questions, transfer pricing documentation, and entity-level tax exposure

Commercial Contracts & Risk

  • Set the standard for contracting across the company — templates, playbooks, and approval matrices
  • Lead negotiation on strategic, high-value, and complex global agreements
  • Identify enterprise-level legal risks and drive mitigation with clear accountability

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor to the CEO, CXOs, and the Board
  • Translate legal complexity into clear business guidance for non-legal stakeholders
  • Partner closely with Finance, Product, Sales, People, and Operations on cross-functional matters
  • Represent the company with regulators, auditors, and external counsel

What We're Looking For

  • Holds an LLB degree; CS or LLM is a strong plus
  • 10–14 years of relevant legal experience, including in-house leadership
  • Expert in handling compliances and compliance registrations globally
  • Hands-on experience with court litigations and arbitrations across multiple jurisdictions
  • Strong working knowledge of local taxation matters, including GST
  • Experience advising on HR legal matters, employment disputes, and client issues globally
  • Proven track record of leading and reviewing a legal team
  • Candidates from the fintech industry strongly preferred
  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience working with CXOs, Boards, and regulators
  • Bangalore-based candidates only
  • Professional working proficiency in English is mandatory

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience as a Head of Legal, General Counsel, or equivalent in a fintech or regulated industry
  • Exposure to global compliance frameworks (e.g., data protection, payments, AML/KYC)
  • Experience with legal technology, contract automation, and AI-enabled legal workflows
  • Experience supporting fundraising, M&A, or international expansion
