About Bytebeam
Bytebeam builds the hardware and software stack behind smart connected vehicles. The team works across the full embedded journey, from schematic and PCB bring-up to interface integration, device behavior in the field, and long-term reliability.
Role Overview
Bytebeam is hiring a Hardware Validation Engineer to own validation for connected-vehicle and telematics-class devices and make sure they work reliably in the real world.
The scope goes beyond bench testing. This role covers functional validation, compliance-oriented validation, reliability and aging, and real-world abuse-case testing across devices that interact with vehicle networks, cloud workflows, and field deployments.
What You'll Do
1) Functional Validation
- Build and execute end-to-end functional test plans for telematics and connected devices.
- Validate power-up and power-down behavior, boot stability, sensor and I/O behavior, communications, logging, OTA readiness, and field scenarios.
- Verify device behavior against backend workflows such as health reporting, alerts, diagnostics, and update flows.
- Build automation where it adds leverage, including Python scripts, test jigs, CAN or serial automation, log parsers, and dashboards.
- Own requirements-to-test traceability, DVP&R structure, and clear validation reporting.
2) Standards and Compliance Validation
- Drive validation for AIS-140 related vehicle-tracking and emergency-behavior requirements.
- Verify emergency-flow behavior, backend connectivity, and location-performance expectations.
- Plan and execute tests around electrical transients and protection scenarios such as load dump, cranking, jump start, and reverse polarity.
- Track evolving compliance expectations in the telematics ecosystem.
- Work with external labs and certification partners, prepare evidence packs, and close observations.
3) Reliability, Aging, and Warranty-Life Validation
- Create reliability validation plans and execute environmental and lifetime stress testing.
- Run or coordinate tests covering thermal cycling, thermal shock, vibration, humidity, corrosion, dust and water ingress, connector durability, and backup-battery aging.
- Define test-to-life and warranty-correlation approaches.
- Lead failure investigations and drive corrective actions with hardware, firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams.
4) Real-World Use-Case and Abuse-Case Validation
- Validate that the device survives and fails safely under field-like conditions.
- Cover cases such as intermittent power, brownouts, noisy supply, partial connector insertion, ESD events, I/O faults, antenna faults, weak GNSS conditions, network drops, and tamper attempts.
- Account for installation variance across vehicles, harness lengths, and grounding quality.
Deliverables You'll Own
- DVP&R and validation master plans
- RTM, test procedures, and pass/fail criteria
- Bench and vehicle test setups, including fixtures, scripts, and instrumentation plans
- Validation reports with failure analysis and corrective-action tracking
- Release-readiness inputs including DV exit status, known issues, and risk assessment
Must-Have Skills
- Hands-on hardware validation experience across power, communications, debugging, and instrumentation
- Strong comfort with lab tools such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, electronic loads, and logic analyzers
- Familiarity with at least one deeper validation tool stack such as CAN tools, serial tools, or DAQ systems
- Strong testing discipline around coverage, corner cases, repeatability, traceability, and data-driven conclusions
- Ability to root-cause failures and work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams
- Familiarity with telematics-domain behavior including GNSS or NavIC, LTE or cellular behavior, vehicle power conditions, and CAN, OBD, or UDS
Good-to-Have
- Experience in compliance or reliability-focused roles that involve structured test planning, execution coordination, and report preparation
- Lab automation using Python
- Exposure to manufacturing test support, ESS, HALT, or supplier-validation work
