Job Description
Electronics Hardware Design Engineer
Location: Bengaluru, India
Type: Full time
Experience: 6+ years
Job Summary
ULOOK is seeking an experienced Senior Hardware Engineer (6+ years) to lead the schematic design, PCB layout, simulation, and board-level validation of FPGA-based radio systems and spaceborne RF sensing payloads. The ideal candidate blends deep expertise in RF front-end circuit design, high-speed digital baseband circuitry, power/signal integrity simulations and hands-on lab bring-up.
Key Responsibilities
- Design schematic architectures for FPGA-based radio boards, integrating RF front-ends (LNAs, PAs, filters, mixers, PLLs) and digital baseband circuitry.
- Develop baseband schematics featuring high-performance FPGAs/RFSoCs, memory interfaces (DDR3/DDR4) and high-speed serial links (JESD204B/C, PCIe, Ethernet).
- Design and review complex multi-layer PCB layouts with strict attention to RF impedance control, grounding, isolation, shielding and component placement.
- Perform pre- and post-layout signal integrity (SI), power integrity (PI) and RF circuit/EM simulations.
- Architect ultra-low-noise power distribution networks (PDN) and phase-coherent clock networks for sensitive RF and FPGA power rails.
- Lead board bring-up, functional debugging and performance characterization using VNAs, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes and signal generators.
- Debug hardware anomalies related to spurious responses, interference, EMI/EMC, noise coupling and signal degradation.
- Collaborate with FPGA, Embedded, RF systems and Mechanical engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Prepare comprehensive manufacturing documentation (schematics, BOMs, Gerber, test plans and design review reports).
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication, RF or a related field.
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in full-lifecycle hardware board design (schematic to production) for mixed-signal and RF systems.
- Strong knowledge of FPGA hardware integration and high-speed digital interfaces (JESD204B/C, DDR3/DDR4, PCIe).
- Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout EDA tools (KiCad, Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro/OrCAD, or Mentor Xpedition).
- Experience running simulations in tools like LTspice.
- Solid grasp of PCB layout best practices, stackup design, high-frequency board materials (e.g., Rogers) and EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
- Advanced proficiency with RF test equipment (VNAs, Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for hardware debugging.
Preferred Skills
- Master's degree in Electronics, RF, Communication or Microwave Engineering.
- Experience designing spaceborne, harsh-environment, or defense hardware (IPC Class 3 standards).
- Familiarity with multi-channel phase-coherent systems, direction finding or radar hardware.
- Knowledge of thermal management and heat dissipation strategies for high-density FPGA/RF boards.
- Exposure to environmental testing (TVAC, vibration, thermal cycling) and EMI/EMC compliance testing.
- Deep understanding of RF circuit design (DC to 40 GHz), impedance matching, S-parameters, return loss and noise figure.
- Experience running RF simulations in tools like Keysight ADS, Ansys or HFSS/Slwave.
