Job Description

Job Purpose:

To maintain and provide safe, serviceable Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and Ground Support Vehicles (GSV) required for the smooth operation of Air India's Hangar. The role is responsible for liaising with stakeholders, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring the upkeep of all equipment including aircraft jacks, docking trestles, platforms, pneumatic compressors, and more.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance

  • Maintain Air India–owned GSE & GSV in serviceable condition and ensure maintenance records are updated.
  • Conduct daily inspections of all GSE & GSV using checklists and rectify identified defects.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on GSE and GSV as per specified intervals and document the work completed.
  • Ensure timely replacement of calibrated gauges and maintain records of the same.

2. Inventory & Procurement Management

  • Maintain an inventory of spare parts commonly used for GSE/GSV repair and maintenance.
  • Raise purchase requisitions as needed.
  • Verify vendor invoices and forward them for payment after proper validation.

3. Operational Coordination

  • Allocate daily inspection–identified jobs to appropriate personnel (technicians, painters, helpers).
  • Plan and provide adequate ground support aligned with operational requirements, emphasizing cost control and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate with authorized service stations, vendors, and OEMs for scheduled maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

4. Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain documentation and records of GSE/GSV as per DGCA regulations.
  • Conduct periodic compliance audits to identify systemic deficiencies, analyze root causes, and ensure rectification.

5. Budget & Resource Management

  • Assist in preparing the GSD budget and manage operations within the approved financial limits.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Serviceability of Air India–owned GSE and GSV
  • Inventory accuracy and availability of spare parts
  • Maintenance schedule compliance for all ground support vehicles and equipment
  • Timely vendor coordination and invoice processing
  • Compliance with DGCA documentation and inspection standards
  • Efficiency in resource allocation and operational cost control

Skills and Qualities Required:

  • Mechanical skills – hands-on knowledge of GSE/GSV maintenance
  • Electrical skills – understanding of electrical systems used in hangar and GSEs
  • Heavy vehicle driving skills (preferable)
  • Manpower management
  • Familiarity with GSE/GSV operations, systems, and components
  • Coordination and communication skills for working with vendors and cross-functional teams

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum Education:
  • Graduate / Diploma in any discipline
  • Experience:
  • 4 years of Ground Support Department (GSD) experience for degree holders
  • 5 years of GSD experience for diploma holders
